Fuck I don't remember
But today I am sad and angry about a 13 year old dying in hospital without any of his family with him. I have been in the position of sitting in a hospital not knowing if my son was going to live through the night, and the idea of a thirteen year old being forced to go through that with only strangers at his side fills me with rage and fury.
I think a lot of us are struggling with this emotionally. As someone who spent a fair amount of my childhood and adolescence In and out of hospitals, I was accustomed to being alone in medical facilities, but the people around me never were. Thinking about all those facing this now is almost too much to allow myself to dwell on. If I do, I become unable to process for a bit. And that‘s just one facet of this obscene situation.

In spite of the SF Bay Area and Alameda County in particular beginning to flatten the curve, I still got this from my doctor at Kaiser Fremont today:

Hello,
Thank you for doing your part to keep us all safe during this trying time. Social distancing is essential for flattening the curve! If you or a loved one does become ill, please know that we are here to help.

A coordinated effort is in place to request donations from the community. Kaiser Permanente is accepting donations of medical supplies and other items including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes.

Current list of items we are accepting. All donations must follow these guidelines:

- Unopened N95 respirators & surgical masks

- Unopened packages of disposable gloves

- Unopened containers of hand sanitizer (60+% alcohol based)

- Unopened containers of disinfectants & disinfecting wipes

- Packaged, unused protective goggles

- Unopened swabs for collecting screening samples

- Unopened gowns (surgical & isolation)

- Face shields

We will also accept donations of home-made masks. This will help us manage our supplies of medical-grade masks for physicians and staff who provide direct patient care. Home-made masks need to meet certain specifications in order to be effective. Please see this link:

https://www.phoebehealth.com/media/file/PatientsVisitors/MaskProductionInstructions_Revised3-20-2020.pdf for instructions to make effective fabric masks.

The Real Cause of Why We Don't Have Toilet Paper

In short, the toilet paper industry is split into two, largely separate markets: commercial and consumer. The pandemic has shifted the lion’s share of demand to the latter. People actually do need to buy significantly more toilet paper during the pandemic — not because they’re making more trips to the bathroom, but because they’re making more of them at home. With some 75% of the U.S. population under stay-at-home orders, Americans are no longer using the restrooms at their workplace, in schools, at restaurants, at hotels, or in airports.
