Better ideas might come from communities for whom “normal” was something to survive, not revert to. Many Puerto Ricans, for example, face multiple daily crises including violence, poverty, power outages, and storms, Mónica Feliú-Mójer, of the nonprofit Ciencia Puerto Rico, told me. “They’re always preparing,” she said, “and they’ve built support networks and mutual-aid systems to take care of each other.”
Also, when you are used to living somewhere with a social support system, it’s normal to do things like book an appointment, follow guidelines, have “faith” in community leaders, etc. I mean, we also have our weirdos, but going to a clinic, or calling local services isn’t strange. Rich or poor, from whatever background, we’re just more used to it. We still have those who fall through the cracks, but not nearly as many.

I don't remember Biden declaring victory over COVID.
TFG did, several times, but I don't recall Biden doing so.

Quite rightly, to my mind, he was given a whole life sentence (no possibility of parole, which is reserved for the most serious crimes and is very rarely used).
I agree absolutely.
The suspect officers outside the Metropolitan Police have been 'Suspended', whereas the ones in the Met have merely been put on 'Restricted Duties' - says a lot about the Met's attitude to potential wrongdoing by its officers...

The governors of Florida and Texas, who have both opposed vaccine mandates and lauded antibody treatments, criticised the federal government’s policy shift and ordered extra supplies of Sotrovimab directly to address an expected shortage. “There was this misguided leadership saying, you know, monoclonal antibodies are great and vaccines are not so great. And that really tilted things in the wrong direction,” said Eric Topol, director of the Scripps Institute for Translational Institute. “Many people who are anti-vax are thinking they can just go and get the antibodies if they get sick. But it doesn’t work that way.”

As a Central Valley denizen, I can vouch for this. These two regions are heavily Trump country, though the larger cities have some blue in them. Vaccine rates here are frightfully low, with most people here saying that they'd rather die than get the jab, just to own the libs. The hospital ICUs are full of unvaccinated people, and hospital beds in general are hard to come by. The ER is full of ICU overflow. And, still, people here refuse to mask up or even take the virus seriously.

It's a sad state of affairs here.

The people who'd rather die than get the jab should have to sign papers to that effect and not clog up the hospitals. They should refuse hospital care. If course this does not apply to the luckless family members they've dragged along for the ride. Especially kids.
But we'll see if they remain so arrogant when it hits them in the wallet.

I mentioned early in the pandemic that businesses would be driven to mandate vaccination by their health insurers raising rates otherwise. Surcharges for unvaccinated has the same effect.

Places that mandate vaccination or lose your job have seen rates above 90%, and as high as 99%. Employer mandates work.

So it turns out almost all of Alberta's far right Members of Legislature have had their shots but never mentioned them in fear of alienating their anti-vax constituents. LEADERSHIP, BABY.
