For those that are in a country that makes a big deal out of it (or not) ... how are you spending the day?

I'll probably play a little Planet Crafter with my sister.

Maybe I'll crack a bottle of wine and indulge in writing some absolute garbage "The Last AI war" science fiction that's been rolling around in my head for a few days.

Then put on some Dungeon Crawler Carl, walk uphill to a neighborhood high point with a reasonable ocean view and watch the fireworks over the bay. Whatever it takes to avoid dealing with mobs and event traffic.

Ever since I had a roommate with a greyhound that always freaked out during the almost nightly Sea World fireworks display miles away... I feel sorta guilty about enjoying fireworks knowing the distress that they put so many pets through. But it's not like I can concentrate on anything else while they're shaking the house, so I may as well go watch'm. Maybe we'll have a repeat of 2012's "Big Bay Boom" when the whole show went off all at the same time. Lol. =D

(and that was only one of 3? 4? synchronized barges in the bay, they all did the same thing)

Anyone using fireworks this weekend: Stay safe, and keep in mind the pets you may be freaking out.
Yeah, someone in the block across the strert from us has been shooting fireworks and freaking the cats out. And not just regular bottle rockets, they seem to have a regular launcher style set up. About once a month for a while they will randomly launch one of those big boomers.

I really want to call the cops on them because 1) Fireworks outside of the First Saturday of the Seventh Month are illegal in the state, 2) I am pretty sure Fireworks of that tier are illegal for personal use anyway especially in a neighborhood and outaide of the First Ssturday of the Seventh Month.

Problem is, its always just one before, so there would be no easy way to track them down.

Hate this time of year... fireworks are illegal in my city but that sure as fuck doesn't stop my neighbors from blowing shit up all night! It was all last night, and will be all tonight as well! So I had a rough night of sleep and my cats seemed stressed too.

First 4th of July in this neighborhood I thought there was a big shooting going on since I forgot what day it was and hadn't yet gotten good at telling the sounds apart.

The United States of America. The only country where we all celebrate our nation's birthday by trying to blow up small parts of it.

It's my first year back here in the city so I don't know how it usually is, but I've heard surprisingly few firecrackers in the leadup to today. Not none, but few. Especially compared to the more borderline-rural place I used to live. Maybe things will be different tonight, we'll see.

I suspect the heat has something to do with it. It's hard to enjoy yourself outside with temps and humidity like this.

If I went to a fireworks show and something like that happened I wouldn't even be mad.

Sounds like a lovely day Jopsy. Which Carl book are you hearing? I just finished the second one (third level) and am waiting in line for the next.

Based on the current level of artillery fire in my neighborhood, I think you can set your mind at ease about those Jewish space lasers. They have surely been soundly defeated.

"Gate of the Feral Gods" (#4). I'm trying to pace myself by alternating with something else between books. It would be too easy just to bulldoze through them all and then risk withdrawal symptoms waiting for the next to release. ;)

There was a green firework in the city's display last night, and the entertaining commentary group nearby, the dude was like, "Green? Green don't have nothing to do with America."
