If Theon had a dick, I would want him to marry Sansa. Maybe Melisandre can grow it back...

If the rules of TV drama apply to Game of Thrones (and ever since they ran out of books, it seems to). Anyone who expressed any bit of happiness in this episode will either be dead or very sad by the end of the next. Brienne, Jamie. Tormund, Podric, Gendry, Aria, and Jorah are probably all doomed.

After her experiences with Ramsay, she might be perfectly happy to have a husband without one. And Missandei and Grey Worm are still having a good time without his, so...

I...don't have high hopes of Winterfell surviving this to be honest :cautious:. Go back and watch and memorialise all your favourite characters now because you'll be mourning their loss come this time next week. The only upside of Winterfell falling is that Cersei's strategy will be foiled, and the task of defeating the army of the dead will be on her. No time to race to Winterfell and pick up all the dragonglass weapons that were dropped either.

I did watch one theory video about the weirwood trees, that they need to be destroyed in order to kill the night king's magic. Well technically it's the children of the forest's magic. So perhaps, Bran may warg into one of Dany's dragons mid-battle to get the job done? With Tyrion and a gaggle of other misfits in the crypt embracing the harebrained idea. Or maybe Bran believes his death at the hands of the night king will end the whole thing. I dunno man, not even the omniscient Bran knows the outcome of this one.

Agreed. Winterfell will be lost, and the bulk, maybe the entire strength, of "da Norf's!" army will be added to the Night King's forces. No doubt there will be a number of beloved characters who won't survive to the Sunday after next (zombie Lyanna Mormont will be a terror to behold).

The strong speculation is the survivors are going to be escaping through the crypts, probably into hidden tunnels, leading to a certain waterfall. Some of the scenes in the season trailers apparently look they might have been set at Dragonstone, so the survivors may retreat there.

As for who will and won't survive the battle. My personal feel is Dany, Jon, Sansa, Arya, Bran, Tyrion, Missende, Varys, Sam, Gilly & Little Sam will make it out of Winterfell. Everyone else is in serious danger. I'm particularly concerned for Theon, Brienne, Grey Worm and probably Jamie too. Theon, Brienne and Jamie would see arc closure by dying in the coming battle and after his conversation with Missende this week, I suspect Grey Worm is done too..

True, but there must always be a Stark in Winterfell, assuming Winterfell gets rebuilt. Unless she'd be content to let Arya and Gendry make that Stark, she needs to procreate.

Which makes me wonder what Dany was planning to do, with her supposed infertility. Adopt maybe? There should still be Blackfyres kicking around with Targ blood. Baratheons also had quite a bit of Targaryen blood but, well...

It would just be ridiculous to fight this hard for the Iron Throne, just to let another house take it after her death.

I doubt it. His vow ended specifically upon death, but dying didn't change his bloodline. I mean, if Robert had lost the rebellion and Jon had been raised as Aegon, he would still have been recognized as a Targaryen after his death. Also, he didn't make that vow using his true name/identity, so I'm not sure it would have held up legally if his parentage had been discovered before his brief death.

There's a theory floating around that the NK is not actually with the army approaching Winterfell, and has instead headed off somewhere else on his dragon. The most popular speculated destination is King's Landing, due to Dany's vision of a destroyed throne room back in whatever season it was, but the Citadel or the weirwood on the Isle of Faces are also possibilities.

Visualizing him surprising Cersei now, lol. I do hope they show that!

UGH! NO!
This theory that is getting really popular on Reddit would, if true, be the end of the show for me.

TL;DR: The Night King’s goal isn’t killing Bran, it's retrieving his long trapped Queen from the lowest level of the Winterfell Crypt. After he frees her he’ll either be defeated or simply leave, and the humans (who have taken less casualties than expected) will be left stunned and confused about what’s next. Dany and Jon’s conflict will escalate even as they prepare to deal with Cersei, and focus will shift back to human drama.
I'm all in favor of finding a clever way to defeat the Night King that results in fewer deaths than expected, but while this theory may make sense to book readers there is ZERO foreshadowing in the series.

Whatever way they come up with to defeat NK, it must be consistent with the lore established in the TV show. Using Dragons, or Arya disguised as a wight, or Bran superpowers, or a pack of wild dire wolves, or (most likely) a major character making the ultimate sacrifice -- those all make sense. Pulling a theory from the book that has never been hinted at in the series, that is basically a Deus Ex Machina end, and would ruin the show.

I'm not sure it's possible to end this series in a satisfying way, so to some degree I'm just assuming I'll be cranky about it. But the ride has been glorious so it would have to be a spectacularly bad ending to ruin the entire series for me.

All that being said, there's only one person I feel absolutely must survive. I want the final scene of the series to be Sam, putting quill to paper, to write his account of the entire tale.

My prediction for the final incumbent of the Iron Throne: Yara Greyjoy.

This is because I'm assuming most of the main players from the Houses Stark, Lannister and Targaryen are going to get themselves killed, one way or another, either fighting the White Walkers or between themselves, while Yara and her fleet are well out of the way, over in the Iron Islands.

I'm predicting that, one way or another, Euron Greyjoy will get himself killed, either in battle or because Cersai is annoyed with him, and whatever remains of his fleet will then switch their allegiances back to Yara, since she's the last Greyjoy standing and she also holds the Iron Islands.

That leaves only the Golden Company, or what remains of it after the fighting, as a coherent military force, and they're interested only in getting paid.

Similarly, the Iron Bank, who lent Cersai the money to pay the Golden Company, want their investment back so they make Yara an offer.

That's pretty much how the Wars of the Roses ended -- everyone was so tired of the constant fighting between the houses of York and Lancaster that, when Henry Tudor (later Henry VII) emerged as someone sufficiently related to both houses, if you go far enough back, to be vaguely acceptable to both sides but not really a leading figure on either, then everyone supported him, just to put an end to the wars.

following that same logic couldn't it them be Gendry on the iron throne? He has a claim by being Robert Baratheon's only living child, and if you go back far enough the Baratheon's are related to the Targaryen's? And if it's not Gendry - he definitely poses a threat than Dany will have to deal with for the reason just stated, and if she fucks with Gendry well then get ready to feel the wrath of Arya.
