From a recap I just read...

Remember Ed Sheeran's cameo last season as a Lannister soldier called "Ed"? Well Ed has met with a gruesome fate.

During the scene with Bronn, one of his ladyfriends mentions one of the poor casualties of the Lannister battle with the dragon, specifically a "ginger". "That boy Eddie," she says. "[He] came back with his face burned right off. He's got no eyelids now."

RIP Ed Sheeran.

On this topic, it's interesting that it was Qyburn who came to see Bronn, not Cersei. It tells you something about how much hate there is between Lena Heady and Jerome Flynn that it has an impact on how the show is written.
I read somewhere that it's in Lena Heady's contract that she not have any scenes with Flynn. I don't know what happened to him, but he must be some kind of mother fucker that she hates him so much.

It's supposedly in both their contracts. They did date about ten or so years ago. Clearly, things did not go well.

I enjoyed the episode, particularly the reunions and revelations. The bit at the end when Jamie and Bran finally meet again was really satisfying. Twitter did not disappoint in the hilarious memes that spun off from that scene. lols.

I didn't expect the first episode to be epic; they need a moment to set all the piece in place for the finale showdown.

I would've put odds on that both Dany and Tyrion who be amongst those still standing. As of now, I no longer think that's true. I'm really beginning to think that Tyrion's going to out clever himself somehow

I disagree. I have a general idea of what the final purpose of certain characters are, and while some are needed to win the battle, others are needed for the restoration and ongoing functioning of the kingdom afterward. Tyrion is absolutely critical for that, not to rule, but to manage. He ends up as Hand of the King/Queen.

I also think Dany lives simply because the whole story has been about her journey to the throne of Westeros. Sam will be the Maester for the Night's Watch, and I think most people have now figured out why Gendry was always going to show up again.

But there are a few I'm not sure about. Jon will defeat the Night King, but does he die doing it? If so, he's probably gotten Dany pregnant, but if he lives I have no idea where he'll end up.

And as much as I love Arya, I don't really see the endpoint of her arc. She's a killer, but not a soldier and not a protector. What's her ongoing purpose in a peaceful kingdom?

Of course all my speculation is based on the assumption that the story ends well. I could definitely be wrong about that! 😕

I just noticed that Brienne is sitting in Tormund's lap there. I wonder if when the show writers started this Tormund/Brienne thing they had any idea how wildly popular it would be with fans.

I know I'm totally shipping them! 😊

My vision for the very last moment of the final episode is of Arya wearing Qyburn's face and slitting Cersei's throat. Seemingly after Cersei won whatever she wanted to win over Dany and the north, and then that's it, there's nobody left alive that's willing to sit on the throne at all. A near total wipeout of Westerosi civilisation. Until the long night ends and the cycle of civilisation starts all over again.

I hope, I do hope, that the night king rides way south on the dragon and attacks Kings Landing before his army have even made it that far south. Dany's vision of the throne room when she was in the house of the undying seems to imply that the red keep is in ruin after a battle....or after dragon fire. If the night king was smart enough he would split his army into two and send a horde or wights further south whilst the remainder attempt to obliterate the northern houses.
The army would grow exponentially by the time they get there. Remember, everybody they kill becomes a new undead soldier.

I'm rewatching the whole series and happened to see Dany's HotU trip just before the latest episode. I noted (and double-checked) that the window above the throne is not the same (Cersei changed it to a Lannister lion), suggesting Dany's vision was not in fact predictive.

It could be a production mistake, but watching the old shows makes it clear how many seemingly insignificant details like this were done on purpose.

They have done things that would not spoil the ending. That's not a mistake. And even then, the visions she had in the House of the Undying were not necessarily predictive. In the books, they were visions of the past, the future and what could have been - she also had a vision of her son Rhaego as an adult, among other things. House of the Undying

George RR Martin suggested in an interview a few years ago that Nymeria and her pack may still have a part to play in the books, saying ""You know, I don't like to give things away, but you don't hang a giant wolf pack on the wall unless you intend to use it." Given how little we've seen Ghost in the last few seasons, I wonder if the show will manage bring her back in a more meaningful way before the end.

Then again, book-Arya was having dreams from Nymeria's perspective basically the entire time they were apart, indicating that she might also be a warg, so it would make sense that the book characters would have a tighter bond than the show characters.

YouTube has been recommending me several GoT theory vids and a couple of them really got me thinking. I'm sure most are just completely wrong, but there are more and more theories every day and it's making me think I have no idea who anybody is!

My big ships are Brienne/Jaime and Sansa/Tyrion. After the books I can't see Brienne with Tormund no matter how nuch I love him. And now that Sansa is growing tha fuck up....I hope she will realize how decent Tyrion was to her of all people.

I ended up joining the r/gameofthrones discord just to theorize with all the other nerds. So far I am kinda hate watching this season just for the conclusion. So far the writing has been terribad and some of the scenes just awful. My fav reunion was definitely Yara/Theon.

I'm am now even more convinced that Dany is toast, and if somehow she isn't, she definitely never sit the Iron Throne.
