I could see a real replacement for 2nd Life coming from Europe or possibly Asia. A North American replacement wouldn't be viable beyond Open Sim.

  1. not go to beaches where sunbathing / swimming / walking around topless is allowed;
  2. not go to beaches where wearing thongs (swimwear, not flip-flops) is allowed;
  3. not visit nude beaches;
  4. etc
Unrelated, but I find it kind of funny that while my condo complex has a pool area, and half the residents basically need to cross a street to get to it... and the whole neighborhood has a "gay/bohemian/free-speech" vibe... (nearly) no one goes running around with just a bathing suit on. Even though they certainly could, even in the so-called 'winter' we get here.

Culturally, the whole zip code seems to have this attitude of "We are NOT a 'Beach Community'. We're 3-4 miles away from that. You wanna run around nearly naked? Go THERE and do it."

Sure there's pride weekend (last weekend) where shirtless men and women in thongs/short-shorts is pretty normal, but that's the exception.

Even the regular joggers/runners in the neighborhood some how end up looking 'modestly dressed' even if shirtless.

This has been fantastic feedback, and I really appreciate everyone taking the time to share your thoughts.

I'm actually part of the MarsColonia marketing team, but I didn't mention that initially because I wanted to hear honest opinions as a user.
We've taken all of your feedback into account. Turning MarsColonia into something that's better than Second Life will take time, but certainly not another 20 years, perhaps 1 or 2 years.

Since we're already on the topic, I'd love to invite some of you legends to join MarsColonia. Once our community forum launches, you'll receive the same status and badges you've earned here, so you won't have to start from zero. There will also be additional benefits, including lifetime Premium access, exclusive badges, and other rewards for our early community members.

Of course, Duh!

but I didn't mention that initially because I wanted to hear honest opinions as a user.
You didn't need to, because it was obvious from the start that you would eventually be shilling MarsColonia. We all know what people shilling for other virtual worlds and SL niche roleplay regions looks like.

Not going to happen. There have been others who have said that they're making a better virtual world, but it doesn't happen. SL is dancing on the graves of other Virtual Worlds. Because, people that have any interest in virtual worlds are ALREADY in SL. So to have any success, you have to do EVERYTHING better than SL from the start. And I do mean from the very start. SL users are familiar with virtual worlds and have "extremely" high expectations for any new one. And without HUGE amounts of content and investment and work, you can't. Seriously, you'll need a huge team, it can't just be a couple of "Musk worshipping nerds obsessed with mars colonies" in a garage.

Not only that, basing a virtual world on a Mars Colony theme is a non-starter. Bluntly, that sort of thing tends to interest only the forementioned Elon Musk fanboys who've read too much Heinlein for their own good. Seriously, if you want to do a virtual world it needs to be as generalized as possible to attract the widest possible audience. And "exploring and colonizing Mars" isn't it. No fashionistas, no steampunks, no lesbian bars, no sailing, no pirates, no beaches, no vampires, no elves and most certainly no cute catgirls and NO FERRETS.

Since we're already on the topic, I'd love to invite some of you legends to join MarsColonia. Once our community forum launches,
Wait, you didn't have a community forum from the START? :facepalm:

you'll receive the same status and badges you've earned here, so you won't have to start from zero. There will also be additional benefits, including lifetime Premium access, exclusive badges, and other rewards for our early community members.
Oooh, the same badges and "exclusive" badges. :rolleyes:

Also....are you Draven Molokoi or whatever or involved with him?

Oh goddess, it gets worse. It involves blockchain and is discussed over on Bitcoin forums. And you can see images with SpaceX rockets. So yes, there's Musk
fanboys.

Here's what it looks like:

That's okay, it's your point of view, and I won't argue with that. Time will tell whether you're right or I am. That's the best thing about the future: it's unpredictable.

Abraham Lincoln thought the best thing about the future is that it comes one day at a time. I don't believe he was much into virtual worlds, though.

So, basically, a semi-AI/semi-human ad bot (with a striking resemblance to that other one who pulls this from time to time, complete with the "Yeah, well that's just, like, your opinion, man," defensiveness at the slightest provocation) showed up to pimp a vaporware virtual world and attempt to poach users for another forum? Do I have that about right?
