So, Bulgarian rock. Epizod is a band that takes from epic war poetry, and Bulgaria has a great deal of that. This tune is about the battles in the Shipka Valley with some corny movie footage. Singer has decent pipes and seems a little too intensely into it while the rest of the band looks asleep. That aside, competent rock song with a corny but fun video.


It was talking in a chatroom with a Bulgarian some years ago that kicked me off down the eastern Europe route.

Django Reinhardt was the European Jazz God and French, one of the most influential Jazz players in the 20th century. He lived only from 1910 to 1953.

In case you might have missed the most defining fact of his play style: his left hand was handicapped, ring and little finger were paralyzed. This didn't stop him from playing the guitar, though, as you can hear and see.

I recently started to look up more Ukrainian music (already loved Schum from Go_A), and i like the side effect that adding them to our playlists might help them a little through these hard times. Some of them have patreons, too. And last but not least, I like how they combine traditional folk songs with modern influences. And the costumes!

Oh, and remember that one tweet where an Ukrainian woman told the Russian soldiers that half of the women in their village were witches? After watching some of these videos I am sure she was telling the truth.
