One other thing I'm really sick of hearing is that democrats "abandoned the working class".... they didn't abandon policies like healthcare, infrastructure and unions that are good for the working class. ...this belief is really code for hating how democrats ALSO try to help people of color and gays. I also heard NPR just now talking about how Kamala did about as well in working class neighborhoods in Pennsylvania as Biden did. The bigger loss was in richer neighborhoods. Any notion that democrats have to turn their backs on minorities to help the working class need to be called out.
Its also code for "People don't understand how taxes work at all and vote for Republicans who make random vague promises around taxes."

I came across a thread on Reddit from the IBEW subreddit a while back and there were Union people backing Trump.

Like why. WHY.

Or like the guy who handles our building maitenence talking about potential change in policies and his employer because of it meaning a pay cut, also commenting about how he might be better in a "lower tax bracket" anyway.

Like no, you won't, ever. Thats not how taxes work. Why donpeople not understand how graduated taxes work. If the tax rate at (made up numbers) above 100k is 50% and the tax rate belowmis 2%< that does not mean that making 150k means you are only bringing home 75k and that you would be better off making 99k and bringing home (around 97k).

Thats not how the fucking taxes work. You get that lower rate up tonthe 100k, and only the shit above gets taxes at the higher rate. There is never any benefit from "going down a tax bracket." Even if it was 99% tax rate for anything over 100k, you will still always make more money net.

You are now leaving the plane of sane, coherent thoughts. Harris has lost. But the country embraces fascism not because the woman wasn't good enough, but mostly because the Democrats' candidate wasn't good enough!

If Kamala Harris would have been a man, but with same history and actions he would have lost most likely as well.
Rhe gender argument gets more infuriating because Clinton is often looped i to it. Harris was a way better candidate than Clinto who was kind of shitty and broken and had plenty of really bad policies in the past and really shady crap around the Clinton Foundation work. Clinton lost because she was a bad choice. Harris lost because Dem policies are not meshing with the majority of people.

They are not the same at all.

.

If you think the brown woman is the problem then you are in fact part of the fucking peoblem. Name fucking names or shut the fuck up. Who would have won? Jesus Fucking Christ could not have won agaist these headwinds.
The sad reality is, probably no one would have won. Because America has chosen that is WANTS Fascism, it WANTS the oprrssive Christian nonsense. It WANTS Trump.

"She just wasn't a good candidate"

"She just wasn't a good candidate" I don't understand this line of thinking, I really don't. Not when the other candidate spent 40 minutes in a rally just awkwardly swaying to music. Not when the other candidate regularly makes sexually charged "jokes." Not when the other candidate only had "concepts of a plan." Not when the other candidate made lying part of his personality. Not when the other candidate has made multiple "jokes" about murdering others. Not when the other candidate is a convicted felon. Not when the other candidate is an admitted incestuous pedophile. Not when the other candidate provoked an attempted coup.

The standards women have to put up with are insane. A woman can go above and beyond, be the most put together and intelligent person in a room, and still she will gain less respect than a male criminal.

Clinton's problem was 30+ years of Right Wing negative messaging. She was screwed before she even declared.

There is a big shift to the right in the whole western world.
I don't think so. In the USA, progressive *policies* are popular more so than progressive candidates. It's not a conservative mindset that is prevailing.

I think right-wing candidates are presenting themselves as agents of disruption, and people want disruption. The want to blow up the whole system.

The fact that liberal policies are SO MUCH more popular than progressive candidates is a weird fact of American politics. My state personifies that. We often vote for progressive ballot measures like abortion rights, minimum wage hikes, and we voted to expand Medicaid. ...but despite all of this, we only elect republicans at the state level.

A lot of rural white voters want some socialism lite as long as you don't call it "socialism" or any similar words. They hate the "vibes" of progressivism.

Simple. If you want something from the government, that's socialism. Especially if you are, somehow, you know .... "not one of us." If I want something, that's a benefit I damn well deserve.

Once you accept that people* basically suck**, they aren't hard to understand. You just have to live in a fetid, dark pit of cynicism. I know I do!

* Present company excepted, of course.

** More generously, they operate almost exclusively from fear, which makes them suck.

Die Zeit's reaction was to the point, I thought.

Looking away doesn't help, fear doesn't help, and in the end all that's left is helpless self-soothing. An election night in front of the television

Bannon and some other scumbags are declaring that now that the election is over they can admit that Project 2025 is indeed going to happen. They are trolling hard. That doesn't mean that Trump would necessarily do it (hint: he absolutely is going to do so, especially given that he said a couple weeks back that the was going to put the man who wrote it to work in his administration).

In any event, here's a website in which you can pick a subject you care about and see what they have planned.

As much as Trump disgusts me, he wasn’t so much the one who ever frightened me. It’s the ones holding the puppet strings that scare me.

I know some of you feel that once he dies or whatever, the cultists will dissipate, but I don’t think so. It will take a lot of time before they would even consider they may have been wrong. Even after their faces have been entirely eaten off 🐆

I found those sarcastoc taunts to be fascinating. So Bannon himself does not believe in Project 2025? That tells me that there will be admin scuffles between the "burn it all down" camp and the "build a Christian theocracy" camp to see who can influence Trump to promote/approve their agenda. That sounds on brand for Trump, who loves when his underlings fight to the death.

Yes, the cult was building for a long time and it's building in other democracies as well... plenty of people are laughing at us while not paying enough attention to the rise of the far right in UK, France, Germany, etc....

For a while I hoped that if Trump vanished nobody else would be able to rally the right so well. ...but I think if he vanished that would just delay the inevitable. The real problem is that fear mongering lies spread much faster than a more complex truth. I think part of why this happened faster in the USA is because of our absolute approach to speech. It's your freedumb of speech to spread propaganda from dictatorships or insane racist things here, but not in many other countries. It's not a problem our founders obviously anticipated.

The more pressing question is why America turned so readily to fascism. And the elephants in the room include Bezos and Musk. People complain about Democratic messaging when media was suppressing it and boosting Trump. Age was important until it wasn't. Minor gaffs elevated to scandal while glossing over Trump's words and actions.
I think Musk might be a true believer in the bullshit. MAYBE. I think Bezos is likely just being a coward kissing ass and probably thinks he's being "pragmatic." This is not a defense of either of them, just speculating what's going on in their heads.

If you think the brown woman is the problem then you are in fact part of the fucking problem. Name fucking names or shut the fuck up. Who would have won? Jesus Fucking Christ could not have won agaist these headwinds.

It is not the woman. It is the fucking fascists.
Agreed, even if this race was a perfect storm in favor of democrats, the cult wasn't going to vanish... they'd just keep trying till they won sooner or later.... So I agree, it's not really about Kamala or any errors she may or may not have made. The question isn't why Harris lost, it's why this cult rose to power at all.
