The Media Gaslighting of 2020’s Most Likable Candidate
At CNN’s town hall event on Monday, the American people saw something we’d been told was impossible: Elizabeth Warren winning over a crowd.

The Massachusetts senator took aim at a variety of subjects: the Electoral College, Mississippi’s racist state flag, the rise of white nationalism. Always, she was met with thunderous applause. Even a simple Bible verse — from Matthew 25:35–40, about moral obligation to the poor and hungry — prompted cheers so loud and prolonged that Warren had to pause and repeat herself in order to make her voice heard over the noise. Yet this was the same woman the media routinely frames as too wonky, too nerdy, too socially stunted. But then, Warren has always been an exceptionally charismatic candidate. We just forget that fact when she’s campaigning — due, in large part, to our deep and lingering distrust for female intelligence.

The more I learn about Mayor Pete, the more I'm leaning in his direction. While my heart was practically set on a woman, and I like the policies Elizabeth Warren is espousing, I am really being drawn toward Peter Buttigieg. I have a good feeling about him. And while some may discount "good" or "bad" feelings, 2016 taught me to trust mine a bit. ☺
He is the only Millenial running. And as such, it is his generation that is going to have to fight this battle and clean up this ungodly mess for their entire lives — so give them the reins and get out of their way.

But can he beat Trump?

Re Mayor Pete: the fact that the Internet makes the cream of content democratically rise to the top is why Pete is getting attention that ten years ago he could never have because MSM was in charge of content. Now, Twitter users are.

Pete is more like Obama than any other contenders. He is not just about policies but big ideas that policies derive from.

My dream ticket would be Warren/Buttigieg so I don't have to choose. On the other hand, POTUS Pete has a ring to it, don't you think?
POTUS Pete works for me. I know it's juvenile and all, but I still can't hear the name Buttigieg without giggling.

Hearing the name doesn't do that for me because there really isn't any "butt" sound in the pronunciation of his name. Reading it, however, is more of a visual jolt. And I have to type it really slowly to get it right, because my brain is being intractably slow to learn the pattern of letters.

So I can see why he became Mayor Pete. :D

I would like to learn more about him. I'm still a Kamala fan, but what I've seen/heard about Mayor Pete so far has me intrigued. My only concern so far is that he is still a relative unknown and may not have the brand recognition to beat Trump in 2020. Everyone knows Kamala, but not many know Pete.

Do they? I keep current with politics and to be honest, I had only the haziest knowledge of her until the start of the election buzz for 2020. In fact, I'd heard more about Mayor Pete (which again, wasn't all that much either) for years. He made quite the splash when he was elected mayor at such a young age and then when he came out. My reservation is that we're not ready for an openly gay president. But I didn't think we were ready, as a country, for a black president either and that turned out to be gloriously wrong.

My apologies. I thought she was more known than that, having been a US senator since taking over Barbara Boxer's seat. She's quite well known in California, I'll say that. But I'd never heard of Buttigieg until he announced his candidacy for president.

My guess is that all of us who regularly post on the PR&S forum are better informed than the majority of U.S. citizens and even we tend to pay more attention to our local politicians than we realize. I'm thinking there are a lot of people who haven't a clue who any of these people are, even now.

I probably paid more attention to the Buttigieg news I started hearing a few years back because I lived in Indiana for a few years while attending graduate school in Bloomington and I even have friends that live in South Bend. When South Bend pops up in the news (not often) that connection is enough to make me pay attention. News from California, which is probably more prominent, rolls right over me because it's just not as personal.

Attitudes have changed very rapidly over the last few years. I think everyone for whom gayness would be a dealbreaker are already confirmed Trump voters. But I am just speculating.
