See and this is an example of why I'm not supporting anyone until the primary. Because there's just too much time for a person I start supporting to come out with something like this:

"Vote for me and I promise I'll find some token female for my VP."

This is going to be a really ugly, nasty, messy primary season.
If it isn't, we're not doing it right.

The Dems are due for a good rousing rough-and-tumble fight. Show us what you've got.

Meanwhile, I've been hearing good things about Peter Buttigieg for years, but this morning was the first time I actually have seen and heard him. He was featured on a morning show and he was VERY impressive.

No way a gay man can win the presidency in the U.S. but his presence is going to challenge some other candidates to up their game. I am looking forward to seeing him in debates. He's the only candidate so far who has seriously shaken my allegiance to Elizabeth Warren.

People in Austin are beginning to put out out the Beto signs they put away in November. Even tho they say “For Senate”.

I still am fine with whoever polls best against the Orange Horror, but I put out my sign anyway.

Maybe it is just cynical manoeuvring, maybe it isn't.

I'm not sure what you expect him to do.

Let's assume that there's a candidate who genuinely supports equal rights for men and women on all levels - could that candidate pick a female running mate or would that also be pandering to women?

Is picking a VP candidate always just done with the intent of pandering to a particular group of people?

He could - or, he could not. I'd expect each of the candidates to pick running mates that match them well; if that turns out to be a woman, that's awesome of course, but....when you don't even have a list a possibilities yet, announcing ahead of time to a campaign crowd that you're going to pick a woman is tokenism, not equality. It tells me you want credit for the optics of "choosing a female running mate" before you've actually done that. How can that be anything other than pandering?

If I decide I definitely want some female executive representation this time around (and I well might, many voters well might), I'll pick one of the half dozen or so women who are already running for president. If you're a man who's running and you want to have a woman for a running mate, just pick one when the time comes, and let me see you do it then. Skip the "Are you watching? Are you watching? Look what I'm going to do!"

The McCain campaign certainly did with Sarah Palin, but I think generally it tends to be more of a strategic pick. Often it has been used to pick up the VP's state or section of the country. Kennedy picked LBJ in some part to help pick up Texas and other parts of the south, and because Johnson was a long-time Senator so presumably could be of assistance when trying to pass legislation.

Trump, or rather the people behind his campaign, no doubt picked Pence to get any evangelicals who were wavering to put aside any stench they felt and vote Trump. I think, if HRC had picked Sanders (assuming he would take VP), we might well have a difference reality right now. It's hard to say, though, with the Russian assistance, possible voter registration manipulation and so on that occurred in the last election.

Pretty impressive, for me esp. his thoughts on not ceding Christianity to the Insane Right.

I think if I could pick the nominee, without considering Trump, it would be him.

Based on fundraising, media attention, and campaign excitement. Beto O'Rourke is my early prediction to win the nomination. (Not necessarily my favorite candidate, but he is definitely an early favorite to win in my book.)

Marianne Williamson has a very interesting interview here, discussing her approach:
