Yes, but unvaccinated != antivaxer.

And even if they were antivaxers, they're not around any more to worry about people's reaction -- it's their friends and family, who may well have pleaded with them to get vaccinated, and feel angry with their late parent or sibling or spouse, and guilty that they weren't able to persuade them to see sense, who are left to deal with other people's judgmental reactions.

Oh dear

Although she was unvaccinated, Jan Rek stressed that his mother did not believe in some of the more bizarre conspiracy theories about Covid vaccines.

"Her philosophy was that she was more OK with the idea of catching Covid than getting vaccinated. Not that we would get microchipped or anything like that," he said.

There was no point in trying to discuss the issue with her as it would just get too emotional, he added. Instead, he hoped that by telling his story he could convince others to get vaccinated.

Or stubbornness. Or confirmation bias
My friend told me that that her firefighter son didn't want to get vaccinated, because he'd been through the whole thing so far and not gotten sick, but he had to get it with the latest mandate.
Then he got COVID anyway. I could have told her 1) the J&J is not as effective, and 2) it was too soon after he got it for what full protection there was. But I couldn't think how to put it then without it being taken wrong.
She said if she had young kids now, she wouldn't want to get them vaccinated. She's not anti-vax, but she doesn't know which information she can trust.
I said if I did, I'd know it was safe if my brother told me so, so I'd vaccinate.
She accepted that.
I suppose some people with doubts, or wrong ideas, wouldn't even trust a doctor in the family depending on where they got their wrung ideas, though.

There is still no vaccine against stupidity.
Pills would do too.
There's a long standing arms race between viruses and people. Viruses mutate and the more fit variants become dominant. Among people, the less fit ones get weeded out. Being stupid makes you less fit, whether avoiding vaccinations, driving while intoxicated, or other ways to die when you don't have to.

I was looking up the history of viruses the other day, because I was bored, and wondering if viruses or bacteria came first. Turns out, they both came along around the same time. There was a paper a few years ago, where they traced the history of viruses using protein folds, and they found that both bacteria and viruses evolved from an older, more primitive cell. Bacteria evolved by becoming more complex, and viruses evolved by simplifying.

It's just another example of how you can get resilience from wildly divergent strategies. Darwinism is all about resilience, which makes me wonder if stupidity does provide some kind of benefit. It's one of the few parts of human character you can always count on, throughout our entire history.

I think everybody is annoyed at how the feds have been handling the pandemic lately, but to give credit where it's due: I just put in my order for free COVID-19 tests, and the procedure for placing the order is surprisingly smooth. The USPS outdid themselves here. Simple email address and mailing address and submit and done! The form is nicely laid out, as well.

I expect the feds and test manufacturers to drag their feet on fulfilling the orders, but you can't blame the USPS for that. I'm just happy that this part of the process was well done.

A friend of mine had a problem ordering hers. It seemed the form got confused by her address.
I live in an apartment building too, and had no problem. I suspect it had to do with the address format.

Is this the day Bing became the search engine for anti-vaxxers?
