EX-president. Sneak attack? In June his team claimed to have turned over all classified documents, despite not having done so. Hardly a surprise then, when they came for the rest. His lawyer was present and Trump, himself, watched on CCTV.

Why would there need to BE a reason for him or anyone to continue to view top secret classified documents?

After reading the act, I'm not so sure it shouldn't be overturned. It seems like it's used more to prosecute whistleblowers than it is to prosecute traitors. OTOH, I think they can only prosecute for treason if we are at war.

Nope. I still have my old ones .

Yup. When I applied for mine, because I was born overseas and actually had a W. German birth certificate + document of natural born citizenship from the US Government, that wasn't enough so I had to send them my mom and my dad's birth certificates, and my mom also found the passport I first came to the states with at 6 months [or was it 6 weeks?] old, so sent that in too. Of course, I placed mine and my dad's BCs somewhere -safe- so can't find them.... but I'm sure as we organize stuff, it will all show up.

FWIW I think the "secure areas" were set up during his actual presidency, when he spent so much time at his personal properties instead of at the actual White House. He had to be given his briefings and notices at these places while he was there, so they needed to create a space where presumably the confidential materials could be shared and looked at without unauthorized people peeking.

While he was president I'm sure these areas would've been checked regularly by whatever inspection team is responsible for that kind of thing to make sure they stayed secure, but once his term was up I don't think the federal government continued to maintain them, so they probably aren't meaningfully "secure" anymore.

Since the F.B.I. served a search warrant on Mar-a-Lago, there’s been a bunch of arguments flying around that the Justice Department should not press an aggressive case against the former president. These arguments are based on prudential reasons: Trump has always claimed attacked by the “Deep State,” so it will make his supporters feel like the government is persecuting them, it will inflame them leading to violence (it already has), and it will create a terrible precedent where a Republican administration feels licensed to use the national security state against their political opponents. Then there are more political arguments, like this will consolidate the Republicans behind him again and may resurrect his political career from apparent decline. There’s also another hesitation I’ve actually felt, too: what if the F.B.I., not always the most trustworthy or competent institution, doesn’t really have much and it ends up looking kinda thin? But my answer to all these concerns is increasingly, “Enough of this bullshit, already.”

People who travel a lot will often have more than one valid passport (duplicate of the original) because they have to actually send a passport with an application for many visas.

This means that they would not be able to travel during the time they are trying to get a visa, which can often take as long as six months depending on the country. At one time, I had more than one US passport for this reason.
