Though people didn't, in 2016, know what now they do. Since then, all the most dire warnings about what a Trump presidency would be like have proved true, and the reality turned out to be even worse.

I agree nothing's certain, but he's clearly no longer the electoral asset he was back then (and presumably won't get all the free coverage as a political novelty that he enjoyed from CNN) and both 2020 and this year's elections have demonstrated that money invested in backing Trump in order to cut rich people's taxes is not now necessarily money well spent.

They (the far right and the drama-chasing media) will just find another charismatic cultural revanchist to fall in line with. It's not like there is a shortage of Trump 2.0 candidates.
