But he resigned himself didn't he?
And he did not stepped forward to become a candidate for the job again.
So I guess that will not happen.
1) I wouldn't put it past Boris to try a come-back.
2) Even if it he doesn't, it's a clear indication of the mind-set of the people who will decide on our next prime minister.

It's a clear indication of the mindset of those "almost 2,000" of the C200,000 members of the Conservative Party (so, about 1% of the membership) who wrote the letters, but I'm not sure how representative they are of the party as a whole -- see this from July 7

However, since, given half the chance, they seem determined to replace Boris with Liz Truss, I'm not sure I trust the judgement of the other 99%.

I suspect the reason Johnson's supporters are pushing so hard for Truss as his replacement, apart from spite towards Rishi Sunak, who they see, rightly or wrongly, as the architect of his removal from office, is that they want to be sure that he's replaced by someone guaranteed to make a spectacular mess of things, so she, not he, gets the blame for the Tories' likely melt-down at the next general election.

I think that, while he doubtless plans to remain as a nuisance on the back benches for the remainder of this parliament, he's going to choose, sooner rather than later, to devote his time to the far more lucrative pursuits of writing and giving speeches, which he enjoys, he's good at, and will make him vast sums of money as an ex PM.

It follows frustration among Port of Dover executives that the government turned down a £33m bid to help upgrade the port to cope with the additional pressures of Brexit. Instead, it was given just £33,000 in December 2020, equivalent to 0.1% of the initial request. The port warned at the time that the “clock is ticking”. Roger Gough, leader of Kent county council, said: “We are still on a bit of a knife-edge. We have a fragile system at Dover port and it does not take much for it to fall over. The pressures are intense and there is concern it could go on for some time.”
Lord Ricketts, a former ambassador to France, said that the delays were an inevitable outcome of the bureaucracy created by Brexit.

“The shortage of French border force officials is a short-term, tactical problem,” he said. “The long-term, serious issue is that this is the first time we’ve seen the full pressure on the border after Brexit. Even if it was a full complement of the French border force there would still be massive delays, because Dover port can’t cope with the volume.

“The underlying reality is that no matter how many they have, given the size of the port, given the fact that the government failed to invest in expanding the facilities, it is going to be like this – this will be the new normal.”

If you want border checks, that takes time. Even if you would have one customs officer directly available on arrival of a passenger or lorry. Which is of course totally impossible at heavily used border crossings.
It is what the UK wanted, it is what the UK got. Back in control. Now it is up to the UK to control it.
Until now, it is mostly blame the others, no matter who or no matter what, as long as it isn't me (us).

One thing that could help is spread the traffic to other ports, but to scale things up in those ports to the needed capacity will take years and years on both sides of the North Sea.
Another possibility would be renegotiate with the EU, but that takes years and years too.
Leaving the common market was a fundamental step, that has no easy fix.

Reading through the original Twitter thread, several people pointed out that this was a parody account. Still funny as hell.
Yes, it was funny, and the sort of thing one might expect might happen under Brexit to affect an upper class twit like Rees-Mogg
