I just realized Trump will try to take credit for all the celebrations happening all over the globe right now.

Oh my... our politicians still are so dumb and naive to think that they just because Biden happens the trends which Trump amplified in foreign politics a lot will go away? No chance!

I am convinced that Biden will be nicer to talk to, not rip treaties apart when he boards Air Force One, and for sure not cuddle with Kim Jong Un or look at Putin like a love sick puppy as Trump did in Helsinki,. But that's about it, the overall trend is for Europe's NATO members "do more for your own safety", and this will not change a lot under Biden, because the main priorities of the USA are the Arabian Gulf and China.

This means that the relationships between the EU and USA, while still on friendly terms, will continue to become less close and more competetive.

To my mind, it's going to be a great improvement to have a US president who isn't actively hostile to the EU and Nato, and who shares European distrust of Putin.

It will also be a huge improvement to be dealing with someone who is stable and who respects international rules and laws.

Even if that's all that comes of Biden's victory, then it's nevertheless a huge improvement on the last four years, to my mind.

Everyone, I think, expects that the US will be busy trying to repair the internal damage Trump has wrought to concentrate much on international initiatives for the foreseeable future, and while I expect most of the US's traditional allies will continue to align some of their particular foreign policies to those of the US, to a greater or lesser extent, I think any idea of American leadership is out of the question.

Nevertheless, the US, under Biden, will almost certainly cease to be a major problem, to be contained by European foreign policy, which is going to make life a lot easier, I think.

I dunno -- Soviet propaganda posters cover 70 years, of course, and a wide variety of styles, but it didn't really remind me of any them. They're mostly in striking, solid colours, unless they're some kitschy examples of socialist realism (happy workers on their tractors, kindly uncle Joe himself smiling benignly at members of the Komsomol and wondering what they'd taste like). This seemed too impressionistic for the USSR.

As I wrote in that other thread, I believe Trump will leave the White House soon and retreat to his Florida residence for the remainder of his presidency. The partying will certainly make that decision easier for him.
