That's a difficult question. Because for some strange reason Trump has a lot of cult populist appeal that the GOP in general does not have. It's not clear who would replace him or how strong they would be. It's also possible he gets replaced by a basic republican who is still bad, but not nearly as dangerous as Trump.

Hard agree. I remember seeing white goons in the streets after 9/11 looking for anyone vaguely arabic looking to beat the shit out of. When I say 'seeing' I mean in the flesh, as in I had a near miss with them.

I'm not going to be the fat lady singing democracy's eulogy just yet. There's still a lot of time between now and the election. The DNC is going to have to quit trying to push Biden out of the way, and focus on being more aggressive in their campaign, though.
That's how they won. They've intimidated too many dems across the country into quiet self-censorship rather than risk retaliation. They are, at their core, a cultural movement that has embraced the threat of domestic terrorism in order to dominate public discourse.
Sometimes all you can do is ride the waves of history. This American yearning for fascism has been building for a long time, decades, and it has been beaten back time and again, but never eliminated. I suspect, like Germany, we'll have to ride it all the way to the bottom before the tide turns. I doubt that will happen during what is left of my life, so I'll just have to trust in the inevitable cycles. This too shall pass.... eventually.
