I hadn’t seen this. Thanks, Cristiano.

Ugh. There is so much about Sanders I find problematic. Yes, yes, I will vote for him if he gets the nomination, the same I would for nominated road kill or a collection of used sporks. But he needs to sharpen up a lot before he would be ready to debate Trump.

No one seems to mind if Dump doesn’t know (or care) how much anything is supposed to cost, though. Or that he doesn’t know how anything works. Or that he hasn’t made one move to come up with the marvelous health care law he promised.
Bernie should have had a better answer, at least one that would circumvent the inevitable ZOMG Socialism high taxes paying for immigrants!!!111!!! Republican attacks. It’s got to be pretty complicated calculating the cost for all that, though. So many factors involved. How could anyone answer it?

The one-two punch.
I thought this was a very good segment that clarified a timeline that got me apologizing yesterday. Sanders was backed into a corner. His briefing was classified. He made a statement after this story appeared in The Washington Post. I don't know how the Post obtained the classified information they released the day before the Nevada caucus. Did they hack it or was it leaked? It seems pretty clear that somebody here is trying to interfere in the election. Somebody surely must get tortured for this.

Moderate Democrats blame progressive candidates for losses, but they can’t seem to blame moderate candidates for losses. Moderates can’t seem to reflect on the historical electability of their candidates, as they implore progressives to reflect on the historical electability of their candidates. Moderates recognize how progressive candidates alienate certain voters, but they can’t seem to recognize how moderate candidates alienate certain voters. Moderates implore progressives to give moderate candidates a chance, but they can’t seem to give progressive candidates a chance.

Moderate Democrats have been consistently inconsistent for decades. They have been rightfully critical of the prospect of a progressive presidential nominee: A progressive could alienate centrist voters, drive up voting rates among conservatives, and imperil the reelection chances of House Democrats in districts Trump won in 2016. Moderate Democrats have wrongfully refused to be self-critical of the prospect of a moderate presidential nominee: A moderate could alienate progressive voters into not voting or voting third party, drive down the voting rates of the party’s younger and nonwhite base, and fail to win back young or liberal white working-class swing voters who swung from Obama in 2012 to Donald Trump in 2016. To be a progressive in a party with a moderate is like being on a team with someone who sees all your deficiencies and does not see any of his own deficiencies, who always takes the credit when he wins, and never accepts blame when he loses.

"Bernie's no worse than Trump when it comes to policy details" does not induce as much confidence as perhaps it needs to, though.

The obvious way is through higher taxation, which shouldn't be a problem because -- at least in theory -- individuals and employers will be paying in taxes what they'd otherwise have been paying in insurance premiums, and should find they're paying less.

But good luck persuading people of that.

Complicated or not, he's going to need a better answer than

Well, I can't -- you know, I can't rattle off to you every nickel and every dime. But we have accounted for -- you -- you talked about "Medicare for All." We have options out there that will pay for it.
"How much is it going to cost and how you going to fund it?" are perfectly reasonable questions, after all, and it's a bit disconcerting that he went into the interview so badly prepared.

As you say, it's the sort of thing people are maybe used to from Trump, but I would imagine a lot of potential voters are hoping to replace him with someone who has a rather better command of policy details.

Establishment Dems don't understand that Sanders is as far right as a lot of people are willing to go. You might grab those people with someone like Warren, but someone like Biden? No fucking chance. Bloomberg? Good joke, tell another.
Well, the media treats us like we're some borderline human creature, unpredictably violent and irrational, probably a lot like how Canadians would be if you took away their social programs and spent the money on empire. We're the extremists, those who want something between unbridled Capitalism and Cuba.

Mainstream media is just grifting with a bigger budget. Fearmongering is the biggest earner and the easiest to write.

His ideas are pretty good for an American politician, but everytime I see Sanders, I see a physically worn down old man. Should he really be considered to become the president of the USA for the next 4-8 years?
If he wins the nomination, it will matter a lot who he chooses as Vice Predident, because there is statisically a good chance that person will end up president.

But as a substantive matter, the notion that Sanders’s acknowledgement of the Castro regime’s accomplishments betrays his secret sympathy for authoritarian communism is absurd. It is a fact that Cuba has one of the highest-performing education systems in Latin America, while its medical system has enabled its people to enjoy life expectancy and infant mortality rates similar to those of U.S. residents despite the island’s relative poverty. Meanwhile, with regard to Sanders’s remarks from the 1980s, the claim that Castro’s early social programs mitigated popular opposition to his government is endorsed by many historians of the region.

Certainly back in the 1980s I can well understand that, if someone had to live in a dictatorship in the Americas, then Cuba was, at least for many people, by no means the worst place they might be.
