Fuck I don't remember
But is that what we want anymore?
I think a lot of us started out wanting someone else, but huge pockets of this country are in a state of being a sort of “walking wounded” and they are starving for empathy back in government. I would have given anything for that to have taken the form of a Harris/Castro ticket, but I understand why Biden is winning the day.

I get all that. But my question was a little more deeper. My concern is that after 4 years of Trump, there may be no going back to "what a president is supposed to {fill in verb} like."

Meanwhile without universal healthcare under Biden we will have 10s of millions of Americans with huge medical bills from this they can't pay.

I'm not sure I have liked the 'What a president should <verb> like' not since people were spouting how presidential Rick Perry -looks-.

And well, I really don't like it much because it always seems to apply to men only :p

[I -know- that's not the intent here, its more just pet peeves and I'm particularly peevish these days - you'd think as an introvert I'd be fine staying home all the time.... But noooooo, I'm too busy worrying about everyone else.]

In many ways it’s kind of a moot question, though. We can only recognize what we think is happening in the here and now. But I don’t think the Trump phenomenon is the last of its kind, nor will it be limited to the presidency. In most facets of society celebrity is taking over the spaces previously reserved for experience and expertise. There‘s never any “going back” as priorities shift from generation to generation. What will the priorities become as the “always online“ generations age into power? No idea.

My personal hope is for it to be more diverse, innovative, and resourceful than we’ve seen, but it will involve stopping organized crime and techbro robber barons from sucking the world dry. I’ve read too much sci-fi and cyberpunk to lay odds on that.

But for right now, yes, I think huge pockets of traumatized Americans want a familiar soul to return something normal into their lives. What happens after that who the fuck knows.

Yes it is, because he will have the assistance of the country’s top experts, he is honest, he is kind, he is tender hearted, and he has overwhelming Black support. We have had enough excitement.

That would still be the case were Bernie Sanders to become president, though, wouldn't it, or has he said that, if elected, he'd retrospectively indemnify all US residents for their medical expenses associated with the pandemic? (He may have done --I'm asking because I don't know).

No, but I imagine that he would push for something like that.

Biden and pretty much every Dem of note has said they’ll push for free coverage of all virus related treatment and expenses as well as continuing to move forward with UHC, but Sanders people continue to pretend only Bernie knows about healthcare.

We may not have been quite ready for a revolution but when we get through this things are going to look very different. I don’t think unregulated capitalism is going to have the same appeal. And we in the US are going to have our faith in our superiority badly shaken.

Maybe we can learn something about the value of cooperation and safety nets. Maybe.

I am going to quote this again, because the weird Bernie worship - attributing all good things to him no matter what, while at the same time disparaging everyone else borders on the same type of delusion you see from Trump supporters.
