How many votes did those swing; post us a link or a study or something.

I'm not going to go digging, but the stories I have seen in the news basically said it had some impact, but that the impact was overblown.

Of course any way you slice it, we've got a bigger problem now ...so apart from rehashing 2016 endlessly, what tangible steps are being taken to actually fix the crap?

My personal theory is that, in efforts to dig up dirt on any candidate other than Bernie, Tulsi or others who have no chance, they ended up at alt-right leaning sites. Lie with dogs, get fleas.

Is it? Writing off Russian interference to some memes and saying, "Oh, we do it" or "Democrats are worse" or whatever other stupid thing you tell yourself to sleep at night is fucking moronic. Some of the links that have been provided in this thread are clearly of the alt-right sort. What you willingly expose yourself to day after day has no effect? In this thread alone some have been shoved down our throats with delightful proliferation page after page after page by the self-titled "others", a title that you wear on your sleeve with abandon.

You're conflating everything down to one aspect of Russian meddling, which was overblown. I've already agreed that the other things, which are measurable (machine tampering, money funneled to candidates) are things that need to be addressed. Aside from the free-speech issues, nobody can measure how a vaguely indirect post about Black Lives Matter or immigration equates to actual voter suppression. You can't measure who got off the fence because of something like that, or who said "fuck this shit because nothing changes" because of that. Maybe you can't fathom it but there are people who are not alt-right in the least who don't buy every single thing the party is selling. How do you think the Democratic Party lost a thousand seats at the state and local level? Are you so out of touch with what non-partisans think? It's such an easy slur, making people who share your values into alt-right bogeymen. It's lazy thinking, an easy excuse.

One can acknowledge that there was actual Russian meddling and want that dealt with without thinking that everything wrong is because of the Russians. We've had our own pathologies developing for decades thanks to Fox and right wing hate radio, and the effect of vague references to hot button issues are probably marginal at most. The very real issues of removing voters from the rolls, closing down polling stations, tampering with vote machines and illegal contributions are clear, concrete, actionable items that can and should be addressed before we worry about trolls who blend in with the rest of our homegrown trolls.
