In this case? Nope.So Betteridges law doesn't apply?
You are absolutely right. Thread title adjusted. So Betteridges law doesn't apply?
The Foreign Press Association has accused the Israeli military of discrediting a Lebanese journalist it killed in March, by using an AI-generated photo to present him as a "Hezbollah terrorist". The Israel Defence Forces claimed responsibility for killing Ali Shoeib in a targeted Israeli air strike in southern Lebanon. It then shared an edited photo of him on social media, overlaying his press vest with a Hezbollah uniform, saying a "press vest is just a cover for terror".
I agree. I am no fan of hers - but on this issue, she has been incredibly consistent and outspoken. Meanwhile. so many people on the left are silent in the face of these attrocities - and our politicians continue to take money from AIPAC and fund these terrorists.Ana's anger over this is exactly right, but she's still a piece of shit.
I feel like I'm caught in an emotional vise, with no way out, which often does paralyze my voice. Unforgivable atrocities on a variety of fronts ("both sides" is far too simplistic to describe what is happening). There are multiple Arab and Israeli factions slaughtering innocent bystanders; comparing body counts is simply not feasible or ethical.Meanwhile. so many people on the left are silent in the face of these attrocities - and our politicians continue to take money from AIPAC and fund these terrorists.
I just saw a segment from CNN about the overall view of Israel by Americans, and how it has changed in the past 4 years:I feel like I'm caught in an emotional vise, with no way out, which often does paralyze my voice. Unforgivable atrocities on a variety of fronts ("both sides" is far too simplistic to describe what is happening). Israel and the United States are both becoming pariah nations because of the actions of corrupt, self-serving, narcissistic leaders and their extremist supporters. I'm sure there are Israelis who deplore Netanyahu just as much as we deplore Trump, but that internal dissent doesn't stop our countries from dishonor.

The answer to most of your questions actually is still clearly "both." Bibi and the IDF has proven themselves to be terrible monsters, but there really is no crime they could commit that absolve Hamas of their own crimes. I get why it might be tempting to want the world simplifying belief only one side is evil, but the facts are against you on that point. Palestinian civilians deserve a lot of compassion but I can't stomach trying to white wash what Hamas has done because it fits into a general narrative people want to push. That anyone can still consider the both sides argument, now all Israel's dirty laundry's hanging on the internet for all to see, shows just how powerful Bibi's hasbro is and continues to be. Even people I respect bring it up, mostly unaware they are repeating well-know pro-genocide talking points.
After all, which country wants to rule the whole region (Greater Israel project) and is erasing all populations in their way?
Which country has imprisoned and murdered children, murdered aid workers, funded terrorists, and tortured inmates with physical & sexual abuse for decades, not to mention the skin farming activities?
Isn't all this & the rest some Nazi shit far exceeding anything we’re heard of since the Holocaust?
Who cares? That's a deflection.but there really is no crime they could commit that absolve Hamas of their own crimes
In many cases, yes, but not when you put my statement in context. I was responding to Ellie's post which seemed to be directly downplaying what Hamas has done and promised to do. It would be a deflection if I was trying to defend the Israeli government, which I was not. Don't get me wrong, Ellie had a point, but I think they took it too far, so I had to say something.Who cares? That's a deflection.
I am not excusing Hamas, which has committed its own atrocities (propped up by Netanyahu), but to Ellie's points, she did not go too far. There is no "both sides"-ing this at this point. Hamas did not rise in a vacuum. The scale of what Israel has done with impunity (much of which we are only finding out more about now that the curtain has been lifted) for decades is truly frightening. In many cases, yes, but not when you put my statement in context. None of them are about the genocide, though. They're only about him and about the financial cost of the war. See the relevant polls. There have been anti-Netanyahu protests in Tel Aviv this weekend, demanding his removal from office stating that he's only prolonging the war because of the corruption trial. Similar protests were in all of Israel happening.
The number of protesters all over the country is reported to be a few thousand.
There's no room anymore for the "but Hamas" canard. To continue bothsidesing it constitutes whitewashing and - whether you like it or not - endorsing the genocide. As Cristiano said, Hamas did not emerge in a vacuum; we know it was propped up by Netanyahu himself so he could have a strawman, a non-credible opponent that he could convincingly present to the outside world in order to pretend he's the "good guy".In many cases, yes, but not when you put my statement in context.
