Israel and the United States are both becoming pariah nations because of the actions of corrupt, self-serving, narcissistic leaders and their extremist supporters.
No, it's because people within the USraeli sphere of influence are finally waking up to this axis' true criminal and destabilising nature. Today we Greeks have the "anniversary" of the bloody and brutal 1967-1974 military dictatorship, which was led by a Nazi collaborationist and Gladio operative and its plots led to half of Cyprus being taken over by Turkey.

I love how most Westerners only got shocked by Israel's actual nature when they saw this, but had SFA to say when Israel destroyed all of Gaza's cultural legacy, numerous Christian churches in Gaza, the West Bank, and Southern Lebanon. They had to see a statue of Jesus get smashed to feel insulted - so many thousands of people, most of them civilians and among them absolute thousands of children, didn't matter at all, because they're the wrong colour and of the wrong religion.

I am not excusing Hamas, which has committed its own atrocities (propped up by Netanyahu), but to Ellie's points, she did not go too far. There is no "both sides"-ing this at this point. Hamas did not rise in a vacuum. The scale of what Israel has done with impunity (much of which we are only finding out more about now that the curtain has been lifted) for decades is truly frightening.
There's no room anymore for the "but Hamas" canard. To continue bothsidesing it constitutes whitewashing and - whether you like it or not - endorsing the genocide. As Cristiano said, Hamas did not emerge in a vacuum; we know it was propped up by Netanyahu himself so he could have a strawman, a non-credible opponent that he could convincingly present to the outside world in order to pretend he's the "good guy".
To be clear, I do agree with what both of you are saying. I still think my response to Ellie was fair since she directly seemed to imply Hamas had NOT done certain things that they had done. I think her sentiment was accurate, but her wording implied some factual errors.

I did? Where?

Perhaps you got lost amidst the continual barrage of fake news such as this:

1. This hoax is so much mainstream knowledge it has its own frickin Wiki page (I made a detailed post way back showing how it was promoted.)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamas_baby_beheading_hoax

“Erase them and their families. These animals can no longer live”. Those were the chilling words of advice from 95-year-old Israeli army reservist Ezra Yachin as Israeli forces prepared to invade Gaza.

After the British media unambiguously asserted babies were beheaded, the genocidal intent from Israeli officials is likely to be perceived less as an extreme call for mass murder and more a justified response.

The process of automatically regurgitating claims not only constitutes an abandonment of the basic principles of journalism – like fact checking, accuracy and objectivity – but also helps legitimise Israel’s violence.
‘Beheaded babies’ - How UK media reported Israel’s fake news as fact

2. Then theres this howler...

A video posted directly by Israel's Defence Forces claimed that it had found Hamas weapons and technology, as well as a "list of terrorist names" in Arabic, showing each agents' rota guarding Israeli hostages under the Al-Rantisi Children's Hospital in Gaza. However, a translation of the document shows that it contains no names but instead a calendar of the days of the week.
Truth or Fake - IDF found a calendar in Arabic, not a Hamas ‘names list’ at hospital

3. And finally, every accusation a confession

Another lie Israel tried to spread is that Hamas committed mass rapes and sexual assaults on October 7. Chaim Otmazgin, a volunteer with ZAKA, an Israeli volunteer organisation, initially claimed that when he saw the victims of October 7, it was enough for him to know that sexual assault had taken place. However, months later, he told the Associated Press that at the time he "couldn't think of any other option" and that his allegation wasn't true. On the other hand, there is a video evidence of Israeli soldiers raping a male Palestinian prisoner. There is extensive documentation suggesting that Israel has committed acts of sexual violence against Palestinian prisoners, both male and female.

TRT World - 9 major lies Israel promoted after October 7, 2023 to justify genocide in Gaza

While I of course do not in any way shape or form condone terrorism, it has to be asked, who are the real terrorists here?

I readily agree Israel has done a lot of atrocities and has lied about a lot. This makes it extremely easy to construct huge lists of bad things they've done or lied about.... but you surely know that not all the talk of their atrocities are proven lies. Like this.

I don't think it's productive to try to see who can construct the biggest, scariest list. I readily agree the Israeli government is way beyond any defense. I agree that "but Hamas" isn't a good way to defend them. I mostly agree with your sentiments, but your wording keeps seeming to imply it's ONLY Israel. It is possible to condemn Bibi's regime without also giving an undeserved defense of other parties.

I will also even admit I'm kind of splitting hairs here. I honestly agree with about 90% of what you are saying, but insist it's important to get the whole picture right as much as possible.

Milena Ansari, the head of the occupied Palestinian territory department at Physicians for Human Rights – Israel, said the rise in sexualised violence and harassment in the occupied West Bank was happening amid a broader culture of impunity for attacks on Palestinians.

A recent decision to drop charges against soldiers for the filmed rape of an inmate at the Sde Teiman centre sent a particularly clear message.

“Israeli officials are effectively green-lighting the use of sexual violence, when they decide not to prosecute the most high-profile case, which is extremely well documented,” Ansari said. “There is a culture of accepting sexualised assault against Palestinians.

“There was a discussion in the Knesset about whether or not it is OK to rape a Palestinian. Even the prime minister didn’t say that Israel opposes raping detainees.”

Israel’s failure to prosecute settlers who attacked Palestinians in the West Bank led to the country’s former prime minister, Ehud Olmert, calling for the international criminal court to intervene to save Palestinians from “Jewish terrorists”, in an interview with the Guardian.

I think the disconnect between what I was trying to tell you and your responses has grown to the point where this clearly isn't going anywhere. I keep trying to tell you I'm not here to defend the IDF.

...and no, you didn't debunk the fact that hundreds of civilians were massacred in that event alone even if the Israeli government further lied about it.
