Good job, President Sheinbaum!

So now Mexico officially has better health care than the United States.

Ex-staffer says Eric Swalwell, candidate for California governor, sexually assaulted her
A woman who worked for nearly two years for Rep. Eric Swalwell, a leading candidate for California governor, said she had sexual encounters with him while he was her boss and alleged he twice sexually assaulted her when she was too intoxicated to consent.
Swalwell did not respond to any of the former staffer’s specific allegations, made in a series of interviews with the Chronicle, and provided a statement Friday:

“These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the frontrunner for governor,” he wrote. “For nearly 20 years, I have served the public — as a prosecutor and a congressman and have always protected women. I will defend myself with the facts and where necessary bring legal action. My focus in the coming days is to be with my wife and children and defend our decades of service against these lies.”
Late Thursday, an attorney for Swalwell sent a cease-and-desist letter to the woman, saying she had “made false statements accusing Mr. Swalwell of sexual assault and nonconsensual sexual encounter,” and threatening to sue her if she did not retract her allegations.
These days, I believe the woman by default.

The floodgates, as they say, have been opened.

Exclusive: Four women describe sexual misconduct by Rep. Eric Swalwell, including a former staffer who says he raped her
A former staffer of Rep. Eric Swalwell, a leading Democratic candidate for California governor, says that the congressman raped her when she was heavily intoxicated and left her bruised and bleeding, an allegation Swalwell strongly denies.

“I was pushing him off of me, saying no,” the woman told CNN of the incident, which she said happened in 2024 after she had stopped working in Swalwell’s office. “He didn’t stop.”
She said it was the second time Swalwell had nonconsensual sexual contact with her while she was drunk. In 2019, when she was still working for him, she said she woke up naked with him in a hotel room after a night of heavy drinking. She said she had no memory of what happened but could feel physically that they’d had sexual contact.
Three other women who spoke with CNN also alleged various kinds of sexual misconduct by the Democratic congressman – including Swalwell sending them unsolicited explicit messages or nude photos.
Will you threaten to sue all these women as well, Rep. Swalwell?

I don't know anything about all the people involved, but I do think it is a bit unlucky that all the allegations come shortly before an election and long after the fact. So it just got a stench - as we in Germany say "es hat ein G'schmäckle".

Allegations against politicians almost always come out late in an election like this. Doesn't make them false, but it does sometimes look suspicious. I agree with free that my gut is to believe the women by default unless proven otherwise. One thing to point out is that many rich and powerful men are always up to something big, so there never really would be a "good" time to release such information.

The difference between dems and the GOP is that this will end Swalwell's career. If he was a republican, this would give him a boost.

Absolutely agree that these women must be heard and believed. An investigation is required but truly, this will end his career and may also involve criminal liability. They will go after a democrat like sharks to fresh blood, no question.
The other great travesty is of course that the most grifty, slimey, assaultive, exploitative, disgusting beast still sits in the highest office and answers to nothing and no one, escaping all consequences into perpetuity. Well, at least on Earth so far.
Hypocrisy: meet profiles in uncourage (sic).

The good news of the day: despite JD Vance supporting Orban, the 16 year reign of Viktor Orban in Hungary is now over!

The newly elected prime minister Magyar will have about 2/3 of the seats in the parliament. Orban already congratulated him to the election.

Orban has been both very cuddly to Vladimir Putin as well Trump in the last years.

Fidesz' massive defeat comes despite:
- multiple active Russian disinformation campaigns
- the US government actively supporting Fidesz
- Fidesz owning the majority of TV & radio stations + newspapers
- Fidesz having gerrymandered the crap out of the country
- many documented cases of voter suppression & paying disinfrenchised voters for support
- Fidesz pouring unprecedented $$$ into their campaign

Feeling a little proud of my country for the first time in a while 🇭🇺

I do too. But I also believe everyone is innocent until proven guilty. I've been struggling, since these allegations came out, to reconcile both ideas. I believe the women who came forward, but I also believe the timing is sus. At the very least, the timing robs these women of credibility.

I supported Swalwell until these allegations came out. I have dropped that support and am rallying behind Xavier Becerra. I hope enough other Californians do the same, otherwise we could very well end up with a Republican governor.

Important to note that not only did Orban lose, it looks like the opposition captured some two-thirds of parliament. The whole government flipped.
The Carrot Caligula has to be loading his diaper right about now.

Efforts to expel Reps. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., and Tony Gonzales, R-Texas, from Congress gained bipartisan steam on Sunday, as lawmakers on both sides of the aisle said they would vote in favor of two separate measures to remove the congressmen following separate sexual misconduct allegations against each of them.

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., told NBC News’ “Meet the Press” moderator Kristen Welker that he would vote in favor of expelling the two lawmakers from Congress, if given the opportunity, two days after multiple women accused Swalwell of sexual harassment and assault.
If separate motions to expel the two congressmen come before the House, Donalds said, “I will be voting yes on both measures.”
