Why the eye roll, Cris? When Trump ordered that air strike on Syria, she bragged about how much further she would have gone.

I supported Sen. Sanders in the 2016 primaries and even gave him a little bit of money. I did so because of his stated goal to change the conversation. I am grateful that he has shifted the debate but was unhappy when he reneged on his promise to join the Democratic party. I was starting to feel good about the overall field and felt that Sen. Sanders has no business jumping in. It seemed like grandstanding and has pulled a lot of the oxygen out of the room.

There are some folks in the group like Senators Gillebrand and Klobuchar who represent the conservative wing of the party that I do not want to get the nomination. On the whole, though, much of the discussion is in a much better place than 2016. Then I read things like the events described in this thread:

And it just ticks me off. There are too many leaders in the Democratic Party who have learned nothing and have views that I personally find abhorrent. So frustrating.... There are so many people in the race, yet I am still looking for someone who has a broad domestic and foreign agenda that addresses fundamental inequities for all people.

Most of all I am a little frustrated that the election is two years away and I am both eager for it to arrive yet do not want to think about it so early. Pres. Trump and all the insipid theocrats we have around here who treat him as The Lord's Anointed One are a straight up regressive disaster.

I think she is done. If we have learned anything, it’s that character counts. Obama was not a different person in private.
:qft:

This type of bullying, controlling behavior is either volitional, which means she chooses to be cruel to the vulnerable, or it's beyond her control, which means she has significant emotional "issues" that render her unfit for high office.

Yeah, I'm pretty certain now that it is indeed a personality issue, so you won't see me defending her anymore. That said, I don't really consider her as a conservative wing of the party. I still could foresee her getting the VP nod, in particular if Biden joins the race.

How about this: it's not sexist to criticize Klobuchar for the way she treats her staff - but it's sexist to give Trump a pass for being even worse.
Well after all Trump is himself just a puppet in the Russian Mafia, controlled by Putin. Which is fine with the base.

Trump is getting a pass on so many deficiencies -- moral, intellectual, psychological -- that we've gone way beyond ordinary garden-variety sexism or racism. We're in some interdimensional wormhole that has ripped through the time-continuum and tattered the fabric of space.

Is it only me, or has Trump really ignited a fire within the female part of the Democrats, that the majority of Democrats putting their hat in the ring at the moment are smart and aspiring women? So that even that dream of a female president isn't too far fetched any longer?

Hell, Yes. Since Day Zero.

You must have missed that bit of news, but it has been a primary driver of American politics at least since the election.

I don’t really have a dream of a female president. It just so happens that many of the best candidates are female. And by many I just mean commensurate with their percentage of the population.

I'd like to see a female president, but overall, I want someone who can defeat Trump, put the train back on its track, and get it moving forward again. And if that someone is female, fucking awesome!

This is a huge issue for me. I am pretty disgusted that children — on whom the future existence of our nation depends — are treated like extravagant hobbies that women indulge in.

And most single parents turn out to be women, who make less money to begin with, often not much more than child care costs.
There's that, and when I lived upstairs from a bunch of single guys one of them was a single dad with full time custody of the kid. The school never-ever-ever bothered him at work regarding his kid who was a complete and utter punk and ended up being held back a year. Kid get sick at school - they just let him hang out in the nurses office for the rest of the day until it was time to ride the bus home. Then, apparently, his dad listed ME as a back up emergency contact, and they called ME at work, and I was like, "Call his father. He's not my kid...." and they said they didn't want to bother him at work. WTF? But, it was okay to bother me? Why is my job somehow less important than his? And let me tell ya - they bugged the hell out of me at work. Spawn didn't hand in his homework - they'd call me at work. Spawn not feeling well - they'd call me at work. Spawn referred to the guidance counselor as an "old battle axe who probably rode a broom to work" - they called me at work.

So, even when a man is a single parent the way they are treated is significantly different from how a single mom is.
