The effective origins of Trump's belief that tariffs are good, and more tariffs are amazing:

White House Adviser Peter Navarro Calls Fictional Alter Ego An 'Inside Joke'
A publishing company plans to add an advisory note to future copies of a book written by White House adviser Peter Navarro, after it was revealed that Navarro fabricated one of the people he quoted.

The character Ron Vara appears in Navarro's 2011 book, Death By China, offering dire warnings about Chinese imports.
"Ron Vara is an anagram of Navarro," said Tom Bartlett, a journalist who exposed the ruse in the Chronicle of Higher Education.

Vara appears in half a dozen of Navarro's books, dating to 2001.

Navarro, who directs the White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, defended the fabrication as a "whimsical device."

"At no time was the character used improperly as a fact source," he wrote in an email. "It's just a fun device."

We learned Navarro's ideas on "Chinese imports" and his financial beliefs in general are pure fiction back in 2019. But Trump apparently found that fictional world to be compelling.

Trump showed the gold card for immigrants, and its even tackier than anybody could have imagined, the name is "The Trump Card"... Instagram link to proof that this is no fake but the real deal.

YEAH..... crazy.... I do think there is some practical reasons to give people a way to pay to expedite themselves to legal status, but everything about this is sickening. 5M is an insane price, and I think every other President understood that the Presidency is bigger than them, so they didn't try to put their names and faces on everything.

Can people who get this vote? It is potentially literally pay play for votes.

Yes, if it makes them a US citizen, they can vote. Though I don't think it in any way makes them vote for him. I'm all for having more pathways to citizenship, which includes voting rights. But obviously I don't think this is just something that should be available to the super rich. We need to let poor refugees and more "normal" workers have their own pathways.

There's already an EB-5 visa that offers a green card (and thus a pathway to US citizenship) to foreign investors and their families. How does this differ?

I think the gold card is just a lot more direct. You spend the 5M and get the visa (or even citizenship) right away. EB-5 from the look of it is a lot more hoops to jump through but shouldn't be that hard for someone who's super rich.

I Googled "How do I get a Trump gold card?" and found this:

So, if Congress can be persuaded to agree, it'll replace the EB-5 visa with something more expensive.

Yes... Trump doesn't have the authority to do this directly, but I suspect congress will cave in to his wishes. And yes, EB-5 had a lot more hoops but was potentially a lot cheaper. The gold card is more direct, but more expensive.

I've just found this, too
Holding a prototype that bore his face and an inscription "The Trump Card", the Republican president told reporters that the special visa would probably be available "in less than two weeks".

"I'm the first buyer," he said. "Pretty exciting, huh?"

So it seems he has the concepts of a plan. Let's see what happens, if it does.

No but could they fudge up a bunch of people to come vote and "pay" for this EZ mode citizenship?

Well Trump believes it will generate a revenue stream of trilion dollars... he for sure has no clue how many people can afford it. Or even why they would want to come to America in the first place.

BTW Cyprus is also offering citizenship for money, but a lot cheaper.

Anyway, presidency is the problem, because in his mind Trump is already King Donald I. of America - at least.

I'm sure Russian oligarchs in need of an apartment in one of Trump's properties will find the US even more attractive than Cyprus.

Nah, Putin can send a bunch of people over to key election districts then they pretend to pay and now they start flipping blue seats and governorships.
