The UK has officially issued travel warnings for the US.

Quote: "You should comply with all entry, visa and other conditions of entry. The authorities in the U.S. set and enforce entry rules strictly. You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules."

Nothing ominous about hanging it with black curtains, is there.
If it's the original or one of the original copies, the black curtains are almost certainly a preservation requirement, especially considering that the room gets actual sunlight.

I was thinking more of what happens if a cabinet member or head of an agency acts unlawfully by defying a court order. If the judge then finds them in contempt, what happens next?
I'm not really sure. The judicial branch does employ U.S. Marshals who can help enforce court orders, fines, arrests. I'm not clear on how it makes the jump from insubordination to the house of reps drawing up articles of impeachment for the president or his cabinet members, but I presume there's some official ceremonial process for it.

Used to be that the expectation was officials would resign immediately when compelled to obey orders they were unwilling to follow. We seem to be beyond that now.

This still depends on their belief that mid-term elections will be held and that their constituents may not vote for them. Being dupped is one thing. Intentionally supporting the Reich is another.
The 'sheeple' types really don't have the luxury of going against their extended support network on issues they might care about but not deeply enough to sacrifice their security over. They'd rather be 'wrong together' and be part of a group of tribal/insiders that offer nepotistic benefits, than risk being ostracized and labelled "disloyal/traiter/not one of us" by having principles that don't align with their immediate community.

With enough ego and denialism, they can pave right over the sting of being duped or unwittingly supporting the Flatulent Fuhrer and his broke-dick Tech Bro.

Since the Department of Justice would arrest them, I believe they are now authorized to stick their thumbs in their ears, waggle their fingers, and blow a loud raspberry.

"Blackout" curtains don't have to be black, just made of a fabric heavy enough to block light. They could have surely made such curtains matched to the design of the curtains used over the windows in the Oval Office (which to Sid's point, are gold).

The most plausible explanation is that the kleptocrat-in-chief spontaneously ordered one of his lackeys to bring him America's founding documents and the black curtains are simply what was available at the time.

There's also nobody in this administration with a sensible taste for interior design since Trump himself is incredibly tacky / gaudy and won't tolerate anyone more competent than him.

This is getting way off the track from my original comedy comment...

You don't even have to do anything wrong, there are numerous reports of ICE detaining people for being critical of the current administration.

If I traveled to the USA, there's a good chance I would be locked up for calling Trump a piss-gurgling shitgibbon (not that I'm interested).

I bet Musk is sending Twitter's user data directly to the US government so Trump's thugs can put critics on a blacklist.

The USA hasn't been on my list of places to visit for a long time already.
Not only because of the Trump administration, the fact that a lot of untrained people are allowed to walk around with firearms was always a big barrier for me too.

You know you've fucked up when it is safer to travel to communist China than to the states! And that's where we are at right now.

Also Kristi Noem has a message to immigrants.

Yes. If an authority figure acting in bad faith wants to find something "wrong" with your paper work, they can. We often can't really prove their real motivations. If Twitter is passing a blacklist to ICE then I think there is a high probability something will leak...

More on the men removed by Trump to a labour camp in El Salvador.

As [his lawyer Lindsay] Toczylowski has explained, Andry is part of the LGBTQ community, a gay man. He worked in the arts in Venezuela. He’s a makeup artist. He came here for asylum, legally. He has no criminal history. ICE detained him originally because of his tattoos. He was kidnapped, and now he’s trapped in El Salvador, in torture central, because Donald Trump put him there, without due process, because Donald Trump is an evil, racist bag of shit.
The Trump administration contends that Andry has tattoos that suggest he is part of the Tren de Agua gang. Toczylowski says that’s utter bullshit, and that Andry’s tattoos are the kind you’d see on literally anybody, anywhere, in Venezuela or in the US. It’s kind of amazing how the Trump administration’s Nazis are so het up about tattoos on Venezuelan migrants seeking asylum, but yet they can’t correctly identify Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s tattoos as white nationalist Christian extremist tattoos. You know, unless they really love Pete’s white nationalist Christian extremist tattoos, and white nationalist Christian extremism is the fucking point of all this.
Toczylowski told Maddow they started to figure out that Trump had disappeared Andry to his bought-and-paid-for black site in El Salvador when ICE failed to produce him for a court appearance last week. The immigration judge was confused how he could have been disappeared when there was no removal order. The ICE lawyer didn’t have an answer. ICE won’t let Andry’s lawyers talk to him. They aren’t going to produce him for his next hearing, which is scheduled in the next couple of weeks.

To be fair, if they were trying to enter with the wrong visas (e.g. tourist visas when they intending to perform at gigs) that would probably get them denied entry in most places.

I kind of wonder how common this is for musicians. I have heard reports before of some smaller artists using the wrong Visa this way. I assume it's cheaper or something.
