I listened to the bile coming from the Right for too many years to blame anything else for the abhorrent sexism. And it's not just the losses themselves - she polled pretty well in most spots but it felt like she was always behind the Biden mark set in '20. Biden wasn't a genius - his policies were exactly what America needed. But the head wind from Fox/the RW news is just too freakin strong.
Yeah, as I said before on other threads, lies are much easier to spread than the truth. Democrats have to get better at communicating clever sound bites that resonate with "low information voters."

Well ... The Abortion Amendments Did Well, Mostly, We Guess (Wonkette)

It’s hard to feel like cheering for anything this morning at all, or trying to see any silver linings anywhere. Mostly because even those silver linings feel pretty fucking grey considering everything else. But hey! The abortion ballot measures didn’t do too bad in comparison to the garbage fire that was literally everything else that happened last night.

In Colorado, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, and New York, voters elected to enshrine their current abortion-rights laws into their state constitutions — so that future lawmakers with nefarious intentions can’t mess with them. So that’s nice!

In Arizona and Missouri, voters elected to get rid of their current statutes against abortion and to protect the right to abortion until fetal viability. That’s awesome! We should all be really, really glad about that, once we can bring ourselves to be glad about anything.

Would a middle aged white man have won? Hard to say as there wasn’t one ready but my hope for America is that they find a few and start preparing them because I don’t see that changing.
A middle-aged white man who championed the same message of respect for all people, equality for all people, love instead of hate, would most likely have lost, too. It was the message that was repudiated, just as much -- if not more -- than the messenger.

And then, somewhere in the middle of next year, the economy will crash. Millions will lose their jobs and homes, including Trump voters. And it will be the fault of Republicans.
And they will somehow still find a way to blame Biden and the Dems for it. In their eyes, Trump can do no wrong. This election proves it.

Given the amount of time left in the campaign after Biden stepped aside, I don't think even a white man could have secured the nomination AND successfully campaigned.

I also don't think Biden could have won, even though he won in 2020.

We put forward our best candidate, a really GOOD candidate, and instead the worst candidate in history won. This is who the majority of the electorate wants. They won it, now they own it.

Waiting to see if buyer's remorse sets in.
May the Trump supporters get everything they so desperately sought after. And may they all choke on it.

I really don't need to listen to Aeon crowing right about now. Ignored. He's more annoying than Grammarly and Adobe ads combined.
Yep. He has finally earned the honor of being the very first, one and only occupant of my ignore list.

Had that one on Ignore for some time now. Saw the post thanks to having had to show the Ignored Content a bit back and ... Let's just say that at that moment, my fury/anger cut right through the fear and I damn near said a few things that might not have gone over well here.

An unfortunate reality that I hoped wasn’t true and shouldn’t be but sadly is. Majority of voting Americans would prefer a lying demented rapist than a woman.

Would a middle aged white man have won? Hard to say as there wasn’t one ready but my hope for America is that they find a few and start preparing them because I don’t see that changing.

As much as we can agree it shouldn’t matter, the reality is it does and probably will in four years.
I think, if we had run a Walz/Harris ticket rather than a Harris/Walz ticket, we would have won. America just isn't ready for a woman president.

Eh, maybe, but as much as I like Walz, he kind of felt like a nobody who came out of nowhere.

She did not lose because she is a woman,
Yes she did.

Just like Hillary did.

Trump is also likely to take credit for the fact that Biden already fixed the economy.... so yeah...
Like he took credit for riding on Obama's economy after Obama pulled us out of Bush's depression.

I feel so helpless to help any of you at this moment. So all I can do is lend emotional support from a distance and acknowledgement of the horror that this ushers in. I too sat stunned last night, feeling nauseous and in shock by this outcome.

As has been noted, lies repeated loudly and repeatedly by the most strident big mouths gain a life of their own and usually get mistaken for truth. Then those 'truths' get amplified by bots, Russian trolls, ne'er do wells, and name your poisonous instigator types.
I agree that the misogyny theme is likely the strongest here, but then toss in liberal doses of racism, otherism, and lest we forget, the impact of compounded generational trauma within the subjugated population. It's like a collective reaction formation as well, a Stockholm syndrome, to then embrace and adulate the very sinister evils that are harming you. So deeply deeply sad.
So my friends, stay safe and remember the kind embrace of internet neighbours who do truly care about you and your welfare, as pat at that may sound. We may not be able to do much, but we can certainly offer meaningful symbolic hugs across the airwaves to tend the injured human spirit.

I shared it with my trans nephew too. We had to peel him off the ceiling this morning, poor guy.

He's still mid-hormone therapy!
I wish someone had slapped me back in 2004 when I was 'playing' Jessica Robertson. I knew then. I went to therapy. I was terrified of losing my job and my then-wife, so, I retreated back into the closet until about 3 months ago when I went back to therapy. It looks like my ass is probably heading right back to the closet. At least I have a semi-supportive wife now.

It's been a life. Hell, I'm ready for the wall. Bring it.
