Holy frikkin' carp, people. I lurk for a few months and everything's ON FIRRRRREEEEE. Discord is exploding. Twitter and Facebook are... Twitter and Facebook. Even Plurk is going nuts.
The other day I listened to the latest episode of the "It Could Happen Here" podcast by Robert Evans, titled "Don't Panic," and I think what he said is worth sharing. I also agree with him on a lot of what he said.
Are things bad right now? Absolutely. As a visibly transfeminine person I'm absolutely
terrified at the prospect of That Orange Asshole getting back into office, and I live in a relatively safe blue state. But we are
not doomed yet, not by a long shot. The fascists are doing the mask-off, full-throated hatred routine because they
know they don't have a lock on this election, even after the events of the past couple weeks. They're scared they'll lose and they will throw
everything at us, hoping something works. The fascists are a very, very vocal minority, and they know it.
The fascists are desperate and they're counting on apathy, despair and fear to make us just give up. I refuse to give up. I've worked too hard to figure myself out over the past couple years - to be a happier person. I will
not let them steal that from me, not for anything. FUCK THE GOP. FUCK THE FASCISTS. (and death before detransition!)
Please, don't give up. This isn't over. If you've got the spoons, please give the podcast a listen. I really think it's worth the time.

These are frightening times, but Robert explains why now is not the time to panic. The situation is not as dire or hopeless as many people want you to believe, and there's a lot of good evidence to back that up.

See omnystudio.com/listener...

If you have the spoons/energy for it, do something locally to effect change. Find a cause and
work it. Get involved with your town's politics, even if it's as simple as attending a meeting. Find other like-minded people to work with. Organize and plan. Run for something.
Most importantly,
do not catastrophize over stuff that hasn't happened yet. (Robert talks about this in the podcast, too!) Focus on what you
can change - again, if you have the energy. Real change in this country won't come from the top down. It'll come from the bottom up - true grassroots effort at the city/state level.
To sum up:
If we fight, we might lose.
If we give up, we
will lose.
Nobody knows the future, and if somebody says they do, they're trying to sell you something.
Don't give up. Don't give in. This isn't over.
