I don’t care about an edited pic, what is interesting is that Kate has not been seen publicly since December, and of course there have been a lot of crazy rumors about her fate. So this Instagram photo which seems oddly staged and edited just adds to the weirdness.

It's not like someone gave her an extra arm or nostril. If they hadn't brought it up, I would have thought nothing of it.

Buckingham seems to be extremely sensitive to the current social discussion over faked pictures and AI, so I get why they're defensive. But come on. People are dying in Ukraine, and this is their choice of a hill?

They have refused requests to release an unedited version because it is probably several photographs. It would have been better to just not release anything in the first place.

This goes really far beyond that. The entire thing is bizarre and being handled very badly. Their response to it just leads to further controversy and a lot of conspiracy theories.

One of the commenters to an X thread posted a photo of Kate from several years back that is an exact match to the supposed portrait of Kate in the middle of her children. He superimposed both photos and it's obvious that this wasn't just a similar pose and facial expression, it's literally the same photo. All the rest of the editing glitches are probably the result of manipulating the setup to cover for this composite.

The level of photoshop skill needed might possibly be in Middleton's skillset, if she's proficient in that software, but I'm dubious. (I could probably do it, but I've been working with Photoshop for years in a professional setting.)

It's one thing to retouch a portrait or even combine a couple of versions of the same photo session to get a "perfect" look, but completely making up her presence in the photo is dodgy in the extreme.

Well, darn! I'll bow to the expert opinion, even if it does ruin a rip-roaring conspiracy theory.

I still think the whole thing is dodgy, but mainly it's proof of the royal propensity to create PR chaos from what should be easy fluffy stuff.

It doesn't really matter to me. Yes, she is a public figure, but she was born into it. And while she does have the option to renounce, there are a number of responsibilities to being a royal she must discharge in addition to the perks. It's none of my business.

Now, if I were a British taxpayer I'd have some entirely different opinions.
