I don't think it is all that mysterious. It was abdominal surgery. High probability it was poop related. Crohn's, colitis, IBS .... there's a long list of possibilities.

I should have been more clear. I was hazarding an explanation of The Company's reticence to explain Kate's situation which is what led to what is (obviously) a bit of a PR trainwreck. I wasn't trying to justify the trainwreck.

That said, after about two weeks (two weeks!) in [the] hospital and months of shunning public appearances is anyone surprised that she's a good deal more ill than "routine scheduled abdominal surgery, nothing to see here, people, show's over, move along ..."?

The machinery surrounding them tries to play down things all the time and everywhere.

(My own mother was an early photo self-editor. She’d scratch herself out of pictures, or darken red eyes with a pen, or ever so lightly ink in her face to appear thinner, etc. ha ha)
