This is the second or third time I've come across this article on Tulsi Gabbard today. A lot of people seem pretty worked up about her. She will be watched carefully, and IMHO that's just as well, for any candidate.
What Does Tulsi Gabbard Believe?
Her past anti-gay remarks will not be easy to overcome - people evolve, but running for president is a whole other level of scrutiny:

Yes, but we'll see. Her legislative record is sound. I know it was harsh but her turnaround was borne of experience and it's sincere. There are other issues that will complicate things for her, but we'll get that sorted out.

Nice back of the drawer you got there.

that doesn't necessarily mean that I think that she will win the nomination, I just mean that everything will be figured out in the end. She'll make her case, and people will either believe it or not.

A not-so-flattering thread about Tulsi Gabbard:

I'm not sure how much of this is still current or relevant, but she's apparently got a lot of skeletons in her closet.
there are some issues she has to deal with, but that is an extremely simplistic rundown of concerns about her record. It's not nuanced in the least and some of those issues are not true.

The ranks will be thinned as some of them fail to gather endorsements and campaign funds, and as reporters look into their backgrounds and find skeletons.
Yes, you will still wind up with at least 2 heavy hitters on the progressive side though.

This Facebook comment thread from Dallas Goldtooth’s feed is probably an example of how Gabbard is perceived on the far Left. It’s quite possible she’s going to be hindered by the perception she still has far Right religious preferences, even if she’s grown out of them by now.

At some point Democrats are going to have to confront the gap between our social progressives and the traditional religions in our ranks. It’s basically impossible to discuss because we’re terrified of dividing the party, and because social progressives are constantly under attack from the Right. But if many of us would be better represented by a purely secular party, that’s not the Dems, not this year.

I really like an anti-war stance and I think Gabbard is all-in for support for military members which is a tremendous strength. But I don’t see the Dems dealing with the religion problem any time soon. It’s an example of how a two party system can’t properly represent us.

Brenda, please recall that atheists/agnostics make up a distinct minority of the population. There are many religious Democrats who believe in religious freedom and the freedom to not practice at all. It is already, in practice, very secular.

Freedom of/from religion is a given, but doesn’t solve the problems with religion from a platform, rather than a legal, perspective.

If we weigh all religious perspectives equally from a platform perspective, we’re giving cover to homophobia and traditional sexism. This isn’t just an issue for white Republicans. We can carve out exceptions for each instance where a community has asserted itself successfully, and then the religious are left to decide if they can stay in the party, while minorities who haven’t been able to get the party to listen to them are still left out of the platform.

These left out people are then at risk of getting treated as a fringe position. It was recently true for non-binary people and is still true for bisexuals, just two examples.

On the other side, membership in a conservative religion can lead people to compromise in favor of traditions against minorities, and genuine progressives still in traditional religions get viewed with suspicion by outsiders even when they’re staunch reformists. This last might be where Gabbard is at, but she won’t be believed.

I don't really understand what you mean by "giving cover." As a platform matter, if the platform calls for non-discrimination, what else do you want?

Tulsi Gabbard didn't just hold specific views - she actively worked against LGBT people. Her evolving on the issues is admirable, but I don't think she's going to overcome her past on this. It has now become the narrative about her, and it's not unwarranted.

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard's past anti-LGBT efforts plague 2020 presidential campaign roll out
In fairness to her, she was 21 when she said the worst of it. I had some pretty out there libertarian views at 21. I didn't snap out of it until about 26 or so.

I wish this was true...but with a prez who had no problem grabbin' em by the pussy or patting neo-nazis on the back...I feel it may only apply to Ds.

I am excited at all the prospective runners announcing or prepping to announce. Hopefully we'll have a nice crop to weed through.

I'm even less sure on Gabbard, after seeing she didn't vote for back pay once the government is back to work [she didn't vote against, but even -my- crappy, twitler-loving congresscritter voted for it - much to my surprise]. And my biggest concern is she lacks the force of presence that some of the other candidates have; skills won't be enough. Also, she's from Hawaii - think my mom is right, we need a midwestern candidate to have the best hope of getting back the house.

Ok I have only got less than 90secs into that vid. They are excusing her gay hate as being early adult when it was the 90s? I was that age in the 90s and guess what...I didn't want lgbt to go through conversion therapy. Yes she may have grown the fuck up (I would certainly hope so) but this isn't just a hit piece...this is info people SHOULD know when deciding on a potential presidential candidate.

And total aside...Fuck Cenk Uygur...of course he would be willing to accept a change of heart since he was a racist sexist piece of shit.

*Sorry I forgot to NOT post when already irritated AF :p *

I get that she wants to atone for her past (I hope). But I just don't think she's ready for the Oval Office. She needs to spend more time in congress building her reputation and establishing a good voting record before she takes a shot at the presidency.
