When Pennsylvania flips deep red, don't come asking me why. This is why.

They are putting a toll booth in my back yard, on one of the most used roads in the state. This is not a local issue, it's a regional issue. John Fetterman is Lt Governor, and a social democrat, who is running for Senate. He supports this, but, critically, this 7 foot tall coward won't make a public statement defending the bridge tolling. Wolf and Fetterman directly control this project, and they refuse to even send a representative to show up at local town halls where we are discussing the booths going in. They can't explain themselves, because these tolls are just one more contribution to the red lining that separates the East and West shore in my town, and it's disgusting.

I'm a social democrat, but fuck it... I'm going red. I'll vote for Dr Oz, against Fetterman, if he doesn't grow a pair and at least give us the dignity of making a serious argument for tolling, that doesn't involve letting the state police get away with grand larceny, and racketeering, in order to give the EZ Pass company more money (seriously, the PA state police straight up stole the money the state legislature set aside for bridge maintenance). Why do we even need tolling when we have a budget surplus that could cover the bridge maintenance?

The first time I have to drive through this toll booth, that's the day I join the nihilists, and fully register republican.

The European Parliament just passed an initiative to ban the use of glued batteries in cell phones, headphones, lap tops and alike. Samsung is already crying a river, and who knows what Apple will think about that.

Instead batteries should be replacable with standard tools by the owner.

I'm Australian. I'm not in your ranks. It's like the US has a conservative party and a fascist party that thinks the conservatives are commies.
I concur with this.
From the outside, the US has a conservative-center party (Democrats) and an extreme-right party (Guess). And *somehow* things are so bad in there that this conservative-center party is considered 'leftist librul'.

Also when I was a young teen in Sydney we did a study on US politics in school, and the current president was Richard Nixon, who was a racist crook... but the health care plan he was pushing was more progressive than the ACA.

Good to know! Well then behold the beauty of the official Australian Prime Minister&Cabinet's new "Women's network" logo, which is intended to promote gender equality:

Most people do agree that this is the real deal and highly likely made by a woman, because a man would make it somewhat different... um larger. And use a different color.

And yes, this is no fake:

You do realise that the "Liberal Party" in Australia is the conservative party, right?

Some are claiming it look like a penis and balls. I mean I can see it if I concentrate, but not really.
Well, it does if you ignore the curly hair (or ring). 😐

Yeah, I don't see it either. It's an ugly logo in itself, and it makes me guffaw because to me it really does look like a tampon. But nothing about its shape or proportions says "phallic".

I'm just glad they didn't make it red.

With everything wrong in the world, and yes I know you can have concern about many, many things, you're seriously so upset about a toll road/bridge that you'd consider voting Republican? Seriously? This isn't the first time you've said that about any number of subjects so, each time you do this it makes you sound like you really don't have much in the way of serious beliefs in terms of human rights and so on. I mean, going Republican pretty much negates any strongly held personal beliefs about such things.

In my state it was the Republicans that made a major highway have a separated special bus/pass lane. Of course, it is the main one heading to wealthy suburbs so mainly the only ones that get to use it are buses and wealthy folks, while everyone else languishes in the heavy traffic. I liked it as a bus driver, hated it as a regular citizen. Keep in mind, those same Republicans constantly are against any improvements to transit, unless you guessed it, it is tailored to go to the wealthy suburbs.

Is it people from the UK claiming that? I'll bet it was.

I don't know what it is about the UK but there's people there who are singularly obsessed with finding ways to get genitals or sex acts out of every logo and then criticizing the company for not anticipating that.

Like there was one logo that was basically just the name of the company in plain text, but the name included the letters G and C in sequence and these guys were like "Hurrrrrr if you turn GC sideways it looks like a guy jerking off, what idiot designed this logo".

No, it is the first time I've said it. I may vote for republicans here and there, in the past, when the democratic party option is indefensable, but I don't throw this registration change threat around casually. I have roots in the local democratic party.

so, each time you do this it makes you sound like you really don't have much in the way of serious beliefs in terms of human rights and so on. I mean, going Republican pretty much negates any strongly held personal beliefs about such things.
You genuinely have no idea what you are talking about. Not unless you want to support police brutality, in which case... sure! Go ahead, call your support of police brutality democratic. I'll leave you and the rest of the party to do your thing without me.

Of course, it is the main one heading to wealthy suburbs so mainly the only ones that get to use it are buses and wealthy folks, while everyone else languishes in the heavy traffic. So... as a bus driver, you do favor red lining and police brutality. Good to know.

For anybody else here, who is reading this, and more sane than Jolene, with her red lining support: I don't care about how tolls fit in to this or that party platform. I care about who is doing it here and now. I didn't split with my republican family to join the democratic party platform. I did it to join the democrats, who are people, who do things. If they do bad things, I have no reason to be with them.

Let me clarify the sequence of events for you:

The PA state legislature set aside money for bridge maintenance.

The PA state police stole that money. That's exactly the wording used by the Eugene DePasquale, the state auditor general, who investigated it. They stole it. That is a hard fact. You can debate the details on this all you like, and even attack DePasquale, to protect the state police if you want, but in the end, when you do that, you are supporting Scott Perry, who is my local congressman, and a theocratic nutjob, and a Jan 6 terrorist collaborator who refuses to testify before congress. DePasquale is the only serious challenger for his seat this cycle.

Governor Wolf, and Lt Governor Fetterman, who are both democrats, they throw up their hands and act like the money just magically disappeared. Stolen? Who would do such a thing? That didn't happen!

Without the money, they say the only way forward is to toll the bridges. That will cost me and my neighbors thousands of dollars a year, and countless hours in traffic, and they will jack the prices through the roof after it goes in. The PA turnpike is the most expensive toll road in the world, because they can't resist jacking prices every chance they get, to hurt the poor. That's not the worst part about this, though. Here's the worst part:

In my area, the bridge in question connects the east shore (Dauphin), and west shore (Cumberland). The east shore is red lined black. The west shore, where I am, is white. This toll between the two areas is clear cut red lining. Dauphin county officials themselves have said that this toll will end economic growth on the east shore.

To summarize: The police stole the money, in order to put in toll booths, in order to brutalize minorities with impunity... and you think it's just some minor little thing that I should just get over? Fuck that. This is the hill I die on.

You might see it as a small thing, because I'm a nobody on an internet board, and that's cool. That's basically the response I got from Fetterman, even when I used better channels to communicate with him. I have no illusions about what people think of me here. Local democrats will be very sad to see me go, though. I'm not a big shot, but I'm definitely part of the machine, and I'm not the only cog who will be rebelling over this. The party is throwing us away like garbage, and we remember things like this. The last time the party leadership behaved like this, George Wallace won a bunch of black neighborhoods in my area. Trump is coming up again, next cycle, so it's a bad time to play this game, but we aren't the ones pushing for racist policy. Party leadership is insisting on fucking around and finding out.

So as far as I'm concerned, Fetterman and Wolf are both bigots. It's no wonder Fetterman shaves his head like he does. He supports skinhead policies.
