Doctors are bracing for a marked surge in Covid-19 cases in the autumn, when indoor socialising increases, children go back to in-person education and employers try to entice their workers to spend more time in the office.

As Covid-19 circulates in society, there is also a greater chance that it will further mutate and evolve into an even more contagious variant.

“That’s the nightmare that keeps me awake,” said the Mayo Clinic’s Poland. “It’s surreal because people . . . say caseloads are low, restrictions are being lifted [but] that in combination with low vaccination rates will be what predetermines our future this fall.”

I don't think it's asking too much to want at least as much detail as the government requires in erectile dysfunction drug commercials. Like this one, for example.


I think this kind of detail would serve two purposes: First, it would give people actionable, scientific information to work with, rather than the absolutely useless "most of the time..." crap. Secondly... people are primed to see scientific findings in commercials with detail at the end as authoritative. You know who doesn't put these details at the end of their drug commercials? Homeopathic quacks. You don't see Gweynyth Paltrow putting this kind of detail at the end of her vagina rocks commercials, because her claims are not scientifically sound enough for the government to regulate. Why do CDC commercials look like Gwyneth Paltrow commercials? Is the CDC a bunch of homeopaths? If not, why advertise like it? I'm not saying it's good or bad that we are primed to think this way, I'm just saying this is how viewers think, so more people would actually pay attention to the commercial if they did the fast talking details at the end, like on the cialis commercial.

I heard on the car radio that that hospitalizations were up 162% in southern Missouri and that was being attributed to the delta variant. One guy said he regretted not being vaccinated, "It's like it's (delta) dive -bombing everyone who didn't have any problems before. Well, yeah, but not the ones who were vaxxed, duh.

I heard on the car radio today that a female American athlete, who has an infant, will not be allowed to participate because Tokyo COVID rules say no family members allowed. She's appealing.
Now, she's probably vaxxed but her daughter can't possibly be. Even for her career, why would she want to take any risks with her?

ETA: I shouldn't laugh but our beleaguered Health Secretary ("poor man" as the Queen was last week heard describing him on video, which she must have done knowing the camera was live, come to think of it) has had to resign after The Sun published this video, presumably leaked by some minimum wage security guard (and I can't be alone in wondering about live video from cabinet ministers' offices appearing in newspapers) of him breaking social distancing guidelines at work with an old university friend to whom he recently gave a part-time job as an advisor of some sort.

Martha Hancock had no idea her husband was having an affair with his university friend until the health secretary broke the news and announced that their marriage was over.

He had raced home after being told by The Sun newspaper that they had obtained CCTV footage of him in and Coladangelo, 43, in his ministerial office.

Hancock delivered the bombshell to his wife, who had previously considered their marriage “happy and stable”. He even woke up their youngest child, 8, to break the news that he was leaving.

If someone tried to pull my mask off, I'd laugh in their face, tell them I've been vaccinated and then barf on their shoes. Or maybe spray fake blood out of my eyes. I wonder what they would do then.
