In a couple hours I'm gonna bite the bullet & go get my first covid vaccination at a clinic 10 miles from me. It's the closest place to me but it's on a first come/first serve basis so hopefully they have some left. I say "bite the bullet" cause I'm very needle-phobic & it's taken me all week to mentally work up to it. I don't like to even see a picture of a needle & syringe or see the vaccinations on tv. I even avoid being in the room when my pets get vaccinations. This whole covid thing has been difficult for me because of the vaccinations alone. I usually don't even watch the news on tv anymore. I just have the tv on to listen to so I can keep up on the news without being freaked out by needles unexpectedly.

I'm in several high risk categories so I know I need to get this done. Yeah yeah I'm going in a couple hours to get this done if they aren't out of vaccine this morning. Then I'll have to go thru the whole thing again in a month for the second shot! Gah! I wonder if they'll let me bring in my emotional support cat. lol

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm not needle-phobic so much as I just don't wanna see it happen :) I get a flu shot every year due to my weakened lungs from childhood disease. And I've had some flu shots that were either poorly administered or they thought they needed to use the biggest needle available. But my first COVID shot turned out to be remarkably pain free and easy. I'm up for my 2nd this next Wednesday. I had a little tenderness around the injection site after the first one, but by taking ibuprophen (or other anti-inflammatory) I can usually cut short the soreness and whatever feverish after effects I may get.

My biggest gripe is that the news keeps showing vaccinations UP CLOSE over and over! I don't wanna see that. I either turn my head or turn the channel. It's ridiculous. "Yes we know already what a needle looks like as it punctures the arm. Stop showing it!"

Good luck. It's not as bad as you fear. It wasn't for me.

I have another appointment on March 7 for my first shot. The first time I got denied because their system was all whackadoodle and let me in, in spite of being a week early for being eligible.

I did it!! Got that shot outa the way & honestly it wasn't a bad one at all. Afterwards tho I had a few minutes where I was lightheaded but they had me sit down & then I was fine. I think it was just that I got so worked up about it. I'm such a baby! haha Hopefully I don't have any bad side effects. My second one will be in 3 weeks & the appointment's already made. I survived the damn shot! lol :)

I think that's a really good idea.

People who are in two minds about being vaccinated, or slightly nervous about it, are far more likely to be swayed by seeing lots of their friends and family posting selfies saying "Yay! I got vaccinated! Now I can kiss my grandkids/go to work/ start to get my life back without worrying" than they are by less personal approaches.

We have one for the early voting center every election. People like to share and it does add a bit if peir pressure to drive up turnout.

I got my note from my endocrinologist all ready to go. In going to print out my lease in case I bet a spot at one of the state or county sites (why a current bill or car registration isn't good enough , IDK).
I keep checking the county and state sites daily as well as the hospital complex which is coordinating it.
Monday I'm calling the county if I can find the right number, because it seems I missed some sort of pre -registration. In addition to my usual round of calls.

Here in the NL you have nothing else to do, but just wait until you find a letter from the Ministery of Health on your doormat.
Then you can make an appointment if you have to travel to a central place or the appointment is already made for you when you get it at your GP's office.

At least you know what's going on. Here, its like... every thing seems to work differently and its not clear even within a state which way you go about it.

Same in the UK, but in the US they don't have a Health Service, so there's no one to do that, and they're having to build the systems that you and I take for granted.

As we both know, but I don't think everyone in the US appreciates, a national health service, however financed and organised, is about a lot more than simply having to pay for treatment or not.

Now I'm reading that something like 400 million doses are supposed to be available in the US by June. Before long, we'll be swimming in the stuff. Given the rise of mutations, we'll probably need to keep producing the stuff for a long long time.

Nothing much to worry about I guess.
Here in Europe they take intervals from 8 to 12 weeks between the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccinations.
Results are at least as good as the second vaccination within 4 weeks.
The Pfizer medical director (a Dutch scientist) said on a talkshow in the NL early January that Pfizer was aware that longer intervals were okay too, but their test reports were based on 21-28 days and that's why that is in the official documentation.

The FDA greenlit the Johnson&Johnson anti corona vaccine in an emergency authorization.

The advantage of this vaccine is that it needs only to be administered once, and you can store it up to three months in a fridge.
