I'm pretty sure he will be. Because enough republican senators can't stand him, and well, having reminders that he wished them even more harm than the democrats? That his people were going to kill them too, if they could have found them? They only need 17.
And then there is also the if they wish to run, he has to be unable to. I doubt it will matter; if he can't run, he'll just run one of his kids, not Cruz, Hawley, Gaetz or any of the other seditious assholes.
I really, really hope that, especially if he is convicted, that they then impeach ever single congresscritter and senator who was actively a part of this.
I'm pretty much resigned to him being acquitted. But I also believe that after the trial, and subsequent to additional spew from DJT, his political power will significantly dwindle. It's already happening as people are quitting the GOP in droves. He needs to go the way of Pat Buchanan and Ralph Nader - mere footnotes in history.
I realize how Pollyanna that sounds, but I cannot for a moment believe that all his stupidity, lies and rank corruption will go unrewarded for long.
The States and judicial districts will have their turn.

I am resigned to the fact that the US will always be battling the same white supremacist movement we have for 400 years. Because this all about white supremacy. We have already waged our bloodiest war over their claim to have the right to keep slaves.
Our mistake was thinking they were not gone but under control. They aren’t. Thank God Biden gets that the election was above all about BLM.

Most Republican senators feel they have no other choice than to vote against conviction.
The moment they would vote in favor of one, the party will fall apart in maybe 3 different parties within weeks and that means at least a decade or two of Democratic ruling.
Great from the perspective of the Dems of course, but not if you are a Rep.
That's why it simply will not happen IMHO.

They are screwed no matter what, though. They might not know it, but they created this monster.... and its their own fault its killed the party [its dead, they just haven't realized it yet.]
As U.S. House impeachment managers made their case for the conviction of former President Donald Trump, Fulton County’s top prosecutor on Wednesday launched a wide-ranging investigation that could lead to criminal charges in Georgia against the Republican.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis notified state officials she was investigating “attempts to influence” the election weeks after Trump demanded that Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger “find” enough votes to overturn his November defeat.
Americans' views of the Republican Party have taken a serious hit ever since the November election and the party's repeated efforts to overturn the election results, according to new polling from Gallup.
Just 37% of adults say they have a favorable view of the party, a precipitous 7-point slide in just a few months from the 43% who viewed it positively in November. In the same period, the Democratic Party gained a few points in favorability, with 48% of respondents now viewing it favorably. That gives Democrats what Gallup calls a "rare double-digit advantage in favorability."
I'm probably done watching this for the day. Its so heartbreaking hearing the pain in the voices of these congresscritters, though it was lovely to have that moment of pride earlier, from Raskin, praising his former student and colleague.
But I'll give them this, their case is beautifully planned and orchestrated, including showing the footage of the Senators being evacuated -twice-.
I really do feel at this point, any gop who doesn't vote to convict needs investigating, or removal for being a bloody fool.
I watched the trial all afternoon and I am emotionally drained. The videos are more horrifying than any horror movie I've seen, and the way the Managers are driving home the emotional side - last messages to family, etc - It feels like I've been choked up all day.

Same, I've legit been crying or right on the edge all day, since 11. And I'm almost thankful that tonight is date night and we are going to watch Wandavision [last night of doing it, we've decided to move it to fridays because hard to avoid spoilers]....
But, the House team is amazing - they are tugging heart strings, but mostly it is just the facts.
Whenever I'm a bit upset or stressed, my dog senses it and insists on climbing into my lap. Today, I was afraid I would rub a bald spot on her back when Swalwell showed his videos.

They're frightened -- before they had only mean Tweets to worry about, but though he's lost Twitter, he's gained a heavily armed mob of insurgents as enforcers.
It wasn't "Hang Joe Biden!" or "Hang Kamala Harris!" they were shouting, when they burst into the senate chamber armed with mace and zip-ties, and with nooses they're brought with them, but "Hang Mike Pence!".
The bully has been defeated, and suddenly his enablers and sycophants realise that they're the only potential victims he has left, that he's far worse than ever they feared he might be, and he's not happy.
They're scared.
"Humour him," they said. "What harm can it do to go along with his fantasies if it keeps him happy? Biden won, and Trump will slink off to Florida, and we can try to pretend the last four years didn't happen," they said.
