Slippery slope.

12 hrs in not nearly long enough. If she is a repeat offender then why not permanent suspension? Perhaps they have internal rules stating that she has to be essentially given warnings like this first?

Q-Shaman remanded into custody until trial

Chansley’s attorney tried to get him released on GPS monitoring, but the judge ordered the 33-year-old self-professed shaman held in jail without bond. He will be transferred to Washington, DC, to stand trial.

Judge Deborah Fine described Chansley’s behavior as “active participation in a violent insurrection.“

Fine said Chansley could not be released because he posed too much of a flight risk and a danger to the community.

Chansley sat quietly and emotionless for most of the hearing. At the end he muttered, “Oh my God.”
That feeling when a tiny little tendril of reality invades your fantasy world and pokes you in the eye.

If you hadn't heard, Ted Cruz went on Fox News today and declared that the putsch's chant of "Hang Mike Pence" was being taken out of context by the "radical Democrat media". To my knowledge, he did not explain what the correct context for the "Hang Mike Pence" chant was.
“Hang Ted Cruz” ... after all he does not know the context

It turns out that we actually know someone who was at the protest - he was not involved in the riot. He says he actually left when he realized it was going to get that way, and in fairness, even when we were watching on tv we saw people in Trump gear walking away and shaking their heads or looking a bit frightened.

Anyway, NOW, he is worried about if pictures of him at the protest appear online that he will be associated with the riot.

I was like many years a group calling themselves The Minute Men came to the town where I was living at the time. I was curious about what they had to say and felt I should hear what they had to say before writing them off as "bad." But, then I realized that 1) there was a high probability that someone from the local paper would be there taking pictures 2) I worked at the domestic violence shelter at the time - and at that time - may face was the first one people saw coming through the door. So, I did not go to the event because I realized that in a small community like that - I represented my employer whether I was on duty or not. Quakerism is a small community, and if pictures of this guy should appear online, my husband's entire yearly meeting will become associated with Trumpism because of this guy.
Anyone there should talk to the fbi. Even if they are innocent they may be witnesses to events that do not have one yet.

But not without first consulting a lawyer and following the advice they receive.

Seriously, I'm all in favour of helping bust fascist insurrectionists, and subject to what his attorney says I think it would be very good if he came forward as a potential witness, but not without first talking to a lawyer who is experienced in federal criminal defence work.

Never speak to law enforcement as part of an inquiry in which you may become a person of interest without a lawyer present. Ever.

Especially if you know you're innocent.

That's definitely unfortunate; but, I'm kind of wondering what this guy's opinion of Black Lives Matter protesters are, and if that opinion has changed at all in light of these particular concerns.

There "should" not have been, certainly, just as MI5 officers and senior civil servants *should* not leave their laptops in taxis and wine bars, and the Home Office shouldn't delete Police National Computer records they're supposed to keep.
Nevertheless, sometimes it happens.
When I was coding for the Army (as a contractor) we had devices on our keychains which displayed a number that changed every few seconds. An equivalent device at the server end changed it's number at the same time. The number was unique to it's particular laptop. When you switched on you had to enter that number before it would boot, and the server had to confirm it - if you didn't get it right after a small number of tries it would wipe the disc and then brick the laptop. Even if you did get it right you had passwords etc to get through as well. This was not even 'Secret' stuff, just 'Confidential'. Modern hi-tech you'd think ? - No, this was 25 years ago...

This all goes well in theory until some higher ups with more decorations than left sanity start bricking their laptops too often. It's an inherent problem of civil service that incompetent superiors never can get degraded or removed from office no matter how out of date they are. You only can get rid of them if their stupidity makes them commit a crime.

It is true; our college network's biggest security hole, by far, is our President.

I do agree that we cannot let our guard down, at all. Some crazy person is sitting in their basement either building a bomb or amassing a shit ton of ammunition.
They caught that guy two days ago.

A Virginia man was arrested Friday at an inauguration checkpoint in Washington, D.C., after police found him with an "unauthorized" inauguration credential and an unregistered hand gun with more than 500 rounds of ammunition in his car, according to authorities.

I misunderstood Daniel's post thinking that she actually had a picture stating, "Not so brave now, are you, you domestic terrorists?" somewhere in her timeline.
Yes, you misunderstood. I was referring to the smile on her face as she stands with a bunch of big hulking National Guard troops, and the 25,000 others guarding the US Capitol. So far, at least, the MAGA troops haven't tried anything else in D.C., just some piddly protests near other state capitols. As I have said several times, they are the "paintball militia". When the *real* militia shows up (the National Guard), and all the state and local response, they fade into the woodwork.

The fact that 150 or so of them have been arrested so far probably helps, as well as the apparent surrender of Trump (he's scheduled to leave D.C. the morning of the 20th and they are actively moving his stuff out).

Not sure if this has been posted. Now, this guy might be the first test of whether or not they will be using felony murder, since he broke the window that was later attempted to be breached by Ashli Babbitt. I'm not sure though, as doesn't felony murder mean that they have to be committing a felony when someone else dies during the commission of said felony?

Assault of a federal officer probably rises to that level, so that may be the tack they're taking with him?

If a police officer kills a person who is attempting to commit a felony, then they can charge all of the accomplices for felony murder, as their actions resulted in a loss of life. The death of the terrorist is the necessary felony even if it was a justified police shooting.
