Yeah, coming all along the gulf coast - and it will hit the counties that were blue as well as though that weren't. And part of the problem -here- is that our districts in the panhandle are gerrymandered - its just not obvious because they are just blocks.... but the coastal areas are part of the rural area between here and the alabama border...

But hate hits the heart and changes good people to bitter ones.
Willow, I couldn't agree more.

I've never hated Trump because he is so broken that nothing he does is of his own volition; he has no control over himself and his impulses. I don't loathe a rabid dog for foaming at the mouth, I just stay out of its way. A whole host of parasites used him for their own agendas, and they're actually more culpable than he is.

My reaction is probably formed by my own family experiences. My mother-in-law was schizophrenic and I watched as too many of her children blamed her for not being the mother they needed. Of them all, only my wife really grasped that their mother was incapable, not unwilling, to be that woman. You don't ask a person with broken legs to run a marathon.

Fox was never that into him. He and his followers were a useful tool to get tax cuts for the rich. Now that he's of no further use to them, they are dropping him like he does to everyone else for the same reason. Murdoch's media properties want to retain an audience, so they are pivoting. When the court cases start for Trump, I expect they will be saying "OMG he's a bad person" with no trace of shame.
Yes, it seemed to me as the campaign entered its final stages that Trump had by then delivered the tax-cuts and the judges, so it was difficult to see what further benefits his backers, enablers and sponsors could reasonably expect to enjoy from a second term, and how they could possibly outweigh the clear disadvantages of four more years of Trump being Trump, only more so.

In particular, I don't think it was a very smart move to boast to an election rally that he expected his Supreme Court judges, particularly ACB, to save his bacon because they owe him -- really not the way to impress judges, I think, particularly if there was a grain of truth in it before he opened his big mouth.

The cartoon in today's Times, one of Murdoch's many papers:

I've always agreed with the words of that great political philosopher Michael Corleone, in Godfather III: Never hate your enemies. It affects your judgment.

Nevertheless, I do believe that it's very important that wealthy and powerful criminals face the consequences of their criminality, and Trump certainly faces a very long and daunting indictment.

If it really is the case that his undoubted mental abnormality and instability genuinely did, at the time of the offending behaviour, render him incapable of forming a criminal intent, then there must be an appropriate disposal open to the courts, just as there must be one if his current mental state leaves him incapable of understanding the charges against him or properly following and participating his defence.

But, to my mind, the full force of the criminal law has to be brought to bear on him and his associates as soon as possible, simply to maintain, or at least try to restore, public confidence in the criminal justice system.

He and his circle can't simply be allowed to walk away scot-free to enjoy the fruits of their massive criminality because they're too big to fail (which they aren't).

Biden is ahead by 14,500 votes in PA with 38,000 votes left to count. So if my math is correct, orangey would need 65% of the remaining votes which should not happen.

Sorry, those numbers are wrong. I read numbers from Philly. I just woke up. He's 28,000 votes ahead and I'm not sure how many votes are outstanding state wide.

Are there 34,641 questions on each ballot in these 5 states or do these guys check each and every sheet of paper with a microscope and wait for a forensics report on each and every ballot?
Or is one single person counting all the votes in all the remaining states, traveling between them when he has counted yet another one?

No I don't need an answer. That was totally sarcastic.
But it is getting really ridiculous now, in my book. The flight to the moon only took 3 days and a few hours.
Counting votes is not rocket science. Or at least it shouldn't be, if you have your act somewhat together.

The problem isn't counting them.

It's that different states have different deadlines for accepting mail-in ballots that arrive after polling day, so if the race is close, they can't announce a winner until they know that one of the candidates has amassed so many votes that, all the as yet uncounted (and possibly not-yet delivered, since the deadline in Nevada is Monday) can no longer affect the outcome in his opponent's favour.

There's a good explainer here

Can we talk about getting justice for everyone that has suffered and/or died BEFORE we start talking about forgiving the monster that brought it upon us?

Sorry, I'm getting testy about it.

Their bodies aren't even cold in the ground yet. This isn't about making nice with someone of good intentions from the opposite political spectrum. This is asking us to just blow off a man man's descent into letting his own people die, and gleefully enjoying it.

Mental disease or not, there has to be a price for that.

At least, wait until he is safely away from society, not actively trying to thwart our democracy to retain power. When he is safely locked away we can discuss leniency to our heart's content.

Right now. He is still a major threat.
