Also, if that pos shitstain had hit me with her phone, I would have just decked her right then and there. Besides, by -their- "logic", I'm superior to them because I'm paler than them [Yup, had this conversation years ago, some white supremecist dickweed asked me out, and I basically told him it wouldn't work - I was paler than than he was, so you know, no race mixing, you know, and oh, I've got brown hair and eyes and he had blonde hair and blue eyes, so still no go, sorry.... I was super snarky when I was in my early 20s. and had no use for racists even then.]
The rabbit hole of race is just ... ow. In the early 20th century there was a debate if Finns were technically caucasian or not. Finland was on different sides over the course of ww2, it was a new country and did not get along with Russia so that made its politics interesting. Anyway, I am guessing hitler must have just loved an ally whose ppl looked like paler aryans but who were part of an outstanding debate about what race they were a part of.

If what people need to get is at Walmart, things can be ordered online too. I've ordered from Walmart several times since the pandemic hit. Annoyingly, though, some items are in-store only, including things like disinfectants.
And unlike Amazon (Prime, anyway) you have to meet a minimum dollar amount to get free shipping.
It is something like 35 right? I never had a problem with that from amazon before getting prime, I would either combine 2 orders or toss in something from a list we had for that purpose (wanted eventually but it did not matter when someone got it).

I think you're right. When it's a nuisance is when they don't have what you'd full out the order with, or they do but it's in-store only. I've managed it a few times, though.

Some of us have insufficient oils on our fingers, which makes manipulating sheets of paper or thin plastic a real headache.

That said, I pretty much quit the practice of licking my fingers to pull open those thin plastic bags at the grocery store right when they got rid of those things. The thicker, reusable ones are a lot easier to manage.
ahhh, I have NO shortage of oil on my fingers naturally, so I have no need.

I do have one thought on that whole "masks make it hard to breath" thing. I thought so when I first started wearing a mask, but just got used to it. I think it's all psychological.

The inconvenience of masks are the main thing, with uncomfortable ears running a close second. We have a type that doesn't use ears to keep itself on, which is much more comfortable. Then there's all the fiddling with keeping it properly in place, particularly when talking. And the loss of clarity of speech making it hard for all listeners to understand the muffled and restricted speech under a mask.

The restriction of breathing caused by a mask is not at all bothersome though I do notice it. As an inveterate hider-under-blankets, I guess I must have trained myself for COVID masking. However, I've never tried exercising in a mask; exercising while hiding under a blanket is just not possible. According to a friend. 👼

My only problem with ordering online is that, usually, if I'm at the store shopping for stuff, it's usually stuff I need that day. I can't wait for the delivery, assuming I'm even home to receive the delivery (I don't work from home).

How long does it take for an Amazon delivery, anyway? And, safe for perishables/stuff that requires refrigeration?

Exactly! That, and so many people had bought the often-debunked, BS line pushed by some conservative outlets that wearing a mask causes your blood oxygen levels to drop to dangerously low levels. It's amazing what these Covidiots will swallow if it fits their views.

For perishables/stuff from grocery store? Within a few hours, though depends on if you are in the region they ship grocery stuff to. I tried them a while back after I got the 'invite' (you have to be invited to use their grocery services). (they have 'Amazon Fresh' and 'Whole Foods'. I believe you need an invite for both, separate invites. I got an invite for one of them but not other . . . I think). Edit to add: I'd ordered milk, frozen stuff, hot dogs, breakable stuff like Doritos, cereal, etc. Everything arrived in perfect condition - what was supposed to be cold was cold, what was supposed to not be cold wasn't cold, etc.

For the 'normal' part of Amazon? Depends. Could be 1 day. If you are in Manhattan I believe they might have same day (I know some have same day for Manhattan - edit: that annoyed me, by the way. I lived in Brooklyn when I first started seeing 'same day for Manhattan' so . . . no, I did not have same day because that was only for Manhattan. pfft.). Might be several months (if, you know, you wanted something like toilet paper).

All deliveries were in chaos a few months ago. They are back down to a day or two now but there are things not listed or hard to find (like cleaning supplies). For perishables use Amazon fresh or whole foods (yes, amazon has 2 competing grocery delivery services), earlier it was hard to get a window but now just pick a 2 hour window, ideally when you will be home to bring things in and freeze things. You might get a frozen water bottle in refrigerated stuff but not always so see if you can aim for a time when you can retrieve things.

We have supposedly been doing pretty well here in IL, but hardly anyone seems to wear masks anymore and the stores never cared. Probably more in Chicago they did but not here in Rural IL. I feel like it's just going to get worse again. We cancelled a day trip to my In-Laws we had planned on Saturday because every day the cases in thier town seem to double in the last week.

We were thinking of driving up overnight to see my mom one weekend since I can't go to Atlanta in august when the spouse -has- to, because of treatments [remains to be seen if he'll have to go, since tech sector is being a lot more proactive on not being stupid - hence why its delayed - but now they would need to get permission from the NRC to postpone further, so....?], but while she lives in rural red GA, I'm in florida, and we're doing so much worse overall, I'm afraid to risk it. I don't think I could take being responsible if my mom got sick....

Luckily, while she is doing some things I wish she wouldn't [like going to mass], I know she's being mostly careful.

So, something changed. I went to Walmart last night after work and it was how it has been, like 75% no masks, people coming and going as they please.

Today, they are back to limiting to one door, counting people, and actually enforcing masks.
