I just don't buy the idea that censoring someone makes people convert to their way of thinking. You might fairly condemn the censorship, but if you then become a follower, clearly there is another deeper reason why you aligned yourself with that individual morally and politically. Something has to make sense to you in order for you to adopt it as a belief.
Not that I class twitter bans as censorship. Only self-entitled brats believe they are owed a twitter account.
You are looking at this as a rational person, but many American voters are not so rational and would see it differently. If Trump was banned from Twitter, he'd cry "censorship" and many Americans would take him seriously. I'm NOT saying he'd be right, I'm saying many voters would believe him.
Editing to elaborate on how irrational a lot of American voters are: A lot of Trump supporters voted for someone they thought was a loon specifically as a big FU to the establishment. Michael Moore gave a great speech on that American mentality of sticking it to the man even if it means shooting yourself in the foot. You are very correct that a rational person wouldn't become a Trump voter just because of a false "censorship" but assuming voters are rational is a great way to loose elections in this crazy country.
No other American president needed twitter. No other current sitting world leader needs twitter. You can't say the same about Donald Trump. He has no long-form intelligence.
I totally agree with you here. But I think it's certain he'd get a short term boost form being banned, even if he wrecks it later. So I really hope they don't ban him right before the midterms...
