Wat bedoel je eigenlijk precies? If the Internet isn't American, then why does everyone on the Internet speak English?
Checkmate atheists.
I was in secondary school when Jimmy Carter was the US President and remember a federal push to convert the country to metric. The mistake was teaching us conversions rather than requiring us to use the measurements. Signs, instructions, speedometers, et. al. included both imperial and metric values so people simply ignored the metrics. If equipment and documentation had cited only metrics, the population would've actually converted, and we'd be modernized woke Europeans by now uhuh I done said it out loud in my bare feet with bubba gusto!Officially it is US customary units. And since a long time US customary units are defined using the metric system.
"Since 1893, the legal definition of the foot in the United States has been based on the meter. "

It's obvious and easy to know. 5280 feet in a mile. Just imagine how many steps you would need to take to walk a mile. 5280 steps, or feet. *nods*So easy to use same internet to search for a conversion. If it was up to me we'd all be using metric.
"How many meters in a kilometer?" "1000, duh"
"How many feet in a mile?" "Fuck if I know."
I want to point out that there are many hidden intuitions in the old imperial system that were once helpful to old timey folks. A cup being a normal size for a cup of coffee, a pint being a normal size for a beer, a foot being a roughly average men's shoe. 5280 is a nicely composite number that can be divided by 32, 3, 5 and 11 (the last one seems random, I will admit). 12 inches to a foot also has more divisors than 10.It's obvious and easy to know. 5280 feet in a mile. Just imagine how many steps you would need to take to walk a mile. 5280 steps, or feet. *nods*
(it's actually 2,000 steps in a mile, and the "easy" part is asking Google "How many feet are in a mile" and hoping Google gives you correct answer).
I have no concept of what 5280 feet look like.
Visualizes 1 feet. Then imagines 5280 of those. Yep, means nothing to me.![]()
Um, your image "visualizes" 18 inches, not a foot. So you'll need to imagine 3520 of those units for a mile, which is weirder and still probably meaningless.Visualizes 1 feet. Then imagines 5280 of those. Yep, means nothing to me.![]()
Those sound like the languages they always use in movies for the Black Magic, Black Magic is from Santa, why would good Christians speak evil tongues???Wait, I know this..
Same reason all Christians are completely fluent in (and refuse to speak anything but) Aramaic, Ancient Hebrew, Ancient Greek and Latin... right?
Honestly, I don't know... I'm just a checkmated atheist.![]()
Yeah, that's the part where I mentioned Google giving you the correct answer. Part of that also is asking the correct question. I asked it to visualize a step.Um, your image "visualizes" 18 inches, not a foot. So you'll need to imagine 3520 of those units for a mile, which is weirder and still probably meaningless.
