Would you let an AI “you” stay active in-world while you're AFK?

I would say no. Your AI-personality does or says the wrong thing while logged in as you and suddenly you've innovated your way right out of SL, permanently.

Besides, I'd feel like a dweeb if a friend IM'd or had some kind of conversation with me thinking it was actually me talking, when I wasn't there...especially if it was something personal or important.

Are you monitoring people's interactions with your synth  ?
Based on how long they said it took them to figure it out when they PM'd afterwards, and a couple of miffed PM's from people who clearly didn't figure it out. ;)

Turning an AI version of myself loose in SL would be like letting my cats loose to order stuff on Amazon. It has the potential to be complete chaos. Like Dakota, I'd worry about what it would do while I'm not logged in and also, if a friend had a real issue and thought they were talking with me but were really talking to my AI but didn't know it. That would be really disturbing for us both.

I have fantasized about an AI version of me in SL after I kicked the bucket - not sure how that would work out.

Oh, sure. I'll be dead and dust, so go for it. Just don't blame me for the constant flood of falsehoods AI me spouts.

Hey, maybe I can blame AI on the constant flood of falsehoods I spout now?

Back in the 90's, one of my local & online friends passed away.

Back then many of us were perpetually connected to a number of text-based virtual realities (tinymuds, Mucks, Moos, etc) with a freaklishly overdeveloped client called "tinyfugue" which was not just able to juggle connections to multiple worlds at the same time, but had triggers, scripting ability and more.

Anyway, after my friend passed, he was still online in many different worlds, auto-responding to all sorts of things that he'd set up, like shortening urls for you, and such.

We all knew he had passed, but no one wanted to kick his remnant offline, so he kept on being there, hanging out in chatrooms, responding to the most random stuff.

This went on for a couple of weeks until his family came and cleared out his place. Shutting down his computer caused his remnant to finally go silent. =(

It was pretty surreal.

A hard hell no. If the Ai can be me then why do I need to bother at all.

I doubt some AI can sexy chat better than I can.

It will be all, "I'm sorry, this is against our community standards."
"I understand the Wesson oil and the bowling pin, but why do you need the backhoe?"

If you just want some sort of GPT set up to run a shop and greet people you could probably do thst eith an alt.

Run something like Corrade to have a headless account, then add an attachment to it that runs ChatGPT and pretends to be it for chat.

Or run one of those Linden Lab bots. I forgrt the URL for it right now.

Which BTW, throwing back to my last joke comment, can be very very dirty, which was surprising.

Backhoe? Amateurs! We had that beat 40 years ago.

Well, I think we all owe Rich Rosen a hearty "thank you" for his safety tips. However, I think I should make a few additional points based on personal experience which may also aid some of you who are attempting this technique.

First of all, if you're using a compact car, a giraffe won't do without considerably more trauma than you'd probably wish to induce. A llama is an acceptable substitute. In a pinch, you can make do with two collies, but the effect is hardly the same.

Next, remember that water and electricity don't mix well. The toaster oven should be unplugged after use, especially if you're skipping the step with the ratchet wrench and whipped cream and moving directly to the water-pik and bunny slippers.

Under NO circumstances use CRUNCHY peanut butter -- the little chunks of peanuts can irritate the skin of the gila lizard to the point where it will sulk and refuse to pull the feather boa when you need it. As you can well imagine, this can result in the candle burning through the parachute too soon, and you'll need some of the escape equipment that Rich noted.

I prefer maple syrup to pineapple/apricot lotion, but that's a matter of personal preferences. I'd advise against the syrup, or using honey if you're outside, because the bees tend to distract the quail.

You can substitute crazy glue (but obviously not thumb tacks!) for the masking tape, but not if you want to use the piano again.

You know, I am noticing a strange pattern here lately. The OP in this thread was written with AI. A couple of other accounts have appeared recently with similar styles. What is going on?

I uh... Was wondering about that. I was considering asking in the Discord but I always forget. There are like, 4, maybe 5 new acxounts who only "discuss" Virtual World topics, which is fine, but they also all just reply to each other like once per thread.

The one that really stood out is the thread aboit head tracking in VirtualVerseOne as if its a Virtual World itself.

Yeah I noticed that too. Also, from the video I posted in the AI forum about spotting AI writing, I can’t unsee it. The Liam account also posted on the SL forums.

Yes, I noticed it. I thought maybe they were OpenSim folks coming here as a team to eventually promote their OpenSim server or something.
