Is woke the new whitewash? Discuss.

"Woke" means one thing to the people who coined the usage, and quite another thing to Republicans, and, apparently, Tories.
According to the Urban Dictionary, "stay woke" means to stay aware of social injustices.
To the right wing, "woke" is sort of a catch-all insult, an expression of derision for anyone who hews to the word's original meaning, or does anything else they don't like.
So, pretty much the opposite of whitewash.

Although I was mostly trolling (mostly...), I wasn't looking for definition of woke. From any political side.

The idea being argued is that "airbrushing" - removing or rewriting parts of history to assumedly scrub someone's record (not saying this was done by the Churchill Fellowship ne Trust, I'm just maintaining the argument in situ for discussion purposes) is a "woke" thing to do.

If that's the case, then how exactly is it so?

I mean, from a purely anti-woke perspective, shouldn't the goal of the woke be to maintain but enhance, exaggerate or even lie about the parts of a person's record that show efforts that either help or hinder racial and/or social inequalities?

Any thought of questioning British, and particularly English, patriotic national icons is guaranteed to generate masses of performative outrage from the Tory press and the Conservative right wing, to which Johnson is always glad to pander. And questioning the myth of Churchill is absolute heresy.

I'm pleased, though, that the Churchill family are having nothing to do with Johnson's nonsense, and have firmly disowned it.

I really think we need laws against going after the families of elected officials... it is utterly pointless and childish and leads to a lot of slander. One obvious exception would be if the family members are given political positions like Ivanka was. ...but then again, that probably should be outlawed as well.
