BoM, which is a bit confusing at first (ok, it still is) solves that problem. It lets you use system skins like you used in the past.
Thank you for the offer, but my problem is that the best mature skin I've found, and the one I'd like to continue to use, is only available as an applier for the Lelutka Simone head. So I can't wear that skin by itself or with any other mesh head. I've tried to find another skin that can be used with BoM, but I haven't had any luck so far. It's not the mechanics of avatar customization that are holding me back (although they do get wearisome), it's the lack of palatable creative options.

It's almost impossible to find a female skin that doesn't have bee-stung lips and a heart-shape ingenue waif face. I want the face of a 50-60 year old woman on a mesh head that can be shaped to be a bit blunter and more plain than is the current trend. What I want is so far outside the norm that the female mesh head sliders just won't go there. I played around with male heads and skins, to see if I could get there from the other side, but the results were not pleasing either.

My point about the skin was you had a pre-mesh head skin that you liked, yes?

There is a magical pixel re-mapping tool called blender that can turn any skin texture made for one model into any other kind of skin for a different model but it requires actually owning the harddrvie copy of the texture as well as both UV maps. A harddrive copy of the actual models are not needed.

While I can’t put my mind inside the head of a skin maker, if I was one and someone pointed this tool out to me and asked for a different format I feel I’d be happy to run it and send it over.

BoM, which is a bit confusing at first (ok, it still is) solves that problem. It lets you use system skins like you used in the past. You need a mesh head that supports it, which a lot do now. The popular female mesh body Maitreya Lara recently added full BoM support for the body, so that has caused a surge in BoM adoption. Also, there are some short male hairstyles from Modulus and Doux that would potentially work for you. I am sure there are female ones as well. I always buy the monochrome packs because I want black, but they also include various shades of grey and white usually. I would be glad to help you with this.
Slink also has bom support, and alphas again.

Also, for the most part, the skins for mesh bodies [at least, for the fashion-type ones] are using a SL skin uv-mapping, so it might be worth asking for it as a full skin.

I don’t see how using my old skin will fix my problem when all the available heads are so very, very far from my look. I’ve been away from fashion for a while, maybe I am missing something? As it is, I just use a Classic avatar to go to real-people meetings.

It can depend on the skin, but moo Money has been able to use a bunch of her old skins without issue on various heads and bodies.

But will it make a difference when all the heads are that squinty eyed big lips look? I mean all the heads. Can I adjust it for
Bigger eyes
Square forehead
Larger nose
Smaller lips
Stronger cheeks and chin

I must be missing something. The heads I find are too far away as they are.

As a recent mesh body adopter and fellow non-mesh header, I've just taken to wearing lots of high collars and chokers...

Sounds like there’s an unfilled market for a smooth strip of neck verts to blend one model to another.

Yes.

Turtleneck sweaters rule. Then I just need new hands.

Heads do respond to sl sliders a bit iwth some limits... not to crazy extent... i have a separate body each specific head. ( if i took off my head and alpha my classic avatar face looks alittle smashed in ) Most heads are usually sold with a body to get a default look. There is enough head and skin options now that should be able to make something unique atleast on the female side.... males are still fairly limited in my opinion. Bom Definitely opened the market.

You have no idea....had a hard time trying to get a catwa head on bimbo lady body...

Thick bracelets?

I'm lucky in the sense I've settled on Maitreya Lara, which has the feet and hands. Thankfully I like them, since they're of a piece with the recent update.

Thanks. I better wait, though. The current heads fashion is so far away from what I want I don’t think even sliders and skin would work.

I just want to second this. I still use a non-mesh head. I have become pretty attached to my face and I have yet to find a mesh head that I could get to come close to being satisfactory.

That was my hesitation too with switching to mesh. I needed the av to still feel like "me". I lucked out after trying a few demos. It was ultimately the skin that made the biggest difference.

All your avis look like the same person no matter which year it was! That’s quite remarkable and must have been a big search to find.
