When the Epstein Files are released...

What will you do when the Epstein Files are finally released?

  • I'm gonna party like it's 3998 (1999 x 2)

  • Nothing (because it''ll NEVER happen)

  • Prepare for the mega-rioting to come

  • Take that long overdue stress nap

  • "I will diminish, and go into the West and remain Galadriel."

  • Consume way too much pie and whiskey

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) walked through all of the details that connect trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and Russian intelligence. Those connections also link President Donald Trump.

According to Whitehouse, the pathway goes through Ghislaine Maxwell's father, which the senator read from his MI6 file that Robert Maxwell was "a thoroughly bad character and almost certainly financed by Russia."
You can watch Sen. Whitehouse's speech here.

A blast from the past.

Beck continues to show why he was left behind by a large part of the MAGA right: He's lazy.

Oh my...

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer told Fox News that Donald Trump’s Justice Department scuttled a state investigation of Jeffrey Epstein’s New Mexico ranch during his first presidency.
The ranch has come under renewed scrutiny by state officials in New Mexico because of an unverified allegation in the Epstein files that the now-deceased sex offender had bodies buried nearby. The state’s Justice Department searched the ranch on Tuesday. The late Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre alleged in her memoir that she met politicians and CEOs at the ranch. Epstein also reportedly had plans to use the ranch in a eugenics-inspired plot to “seed” the world with his DNA (though there’s no evidence he followed through).
James Comer said:
I do know this: The federal government asked New Mexico to stop their investigation — I believe, back in 2019 — of that ranch. So there’s just so many questions about how the government failed the victims and how government failed in trying to prosecute Epstein sooner. I mean, this whole thing doesn’t make sense. Everyone has conspiracy theories on how Epstein was able to get away with it. Was it because he had powerful friends? Was it because he was an agent? We don’t know, but we’re gonna find out and I’m glad that they’re on the ground now in New Mexico searching that property.
Rather conveniently, Comer made no mention of who was president in 2019: Donald Trump. Nor did he mention that Trump appointee Bill Barr was leading the Department of Justice when this purported chicanery took place.
Meanwhile, the authorities in New Mexico brought in "cadaver" dogs to search for bodies on the ranch...

The subtitle says that Pam Bondi was put in handcuffs. I saw no mention in the write-up indicating that Bondi was put in handcuffs. That lowers my respect for the writer. Presumably the 'in handcuffs' has to do with perjury and holding her in contempt of Congress. But the word 'handcuffs' is not mentioned anywhere in the article, there is no mention of contempt of Congress, and no mention of possible jail time.

I think he meant it figuratively in that the new evidence about four sworn witness statements from the woman who says Trump sexually assaulted her when she was 13 is in direct contradiction of Bondi's earlier statement, on oath, that the then unreleased files contained no evidence of criminal behaviour by Trump.

The unsupported statements may not on their own be sufficient evidence to bring a prosecution but they are certainly evidence and they certainly disclose criminal behaviour by Trump.

Since she was on oath when she made what appears to be a false or recklessly misleading statement, I I'd say he's got her bang to rights when next she appears before his committee.

So, the Attorney General of the U.S. went to Congress...

Democrats walk out in protest over ‘outrageous fake’ Epstein briefing from Pam Bondi
Democrats on the House oversight committee walked out of a closed-door briefing from attorney general Pam Bondi about the Jeffrey Epstein files on Wednesday, leaving what California congressman Robert Garcia called “an outrageous fake hearing” after Bondi refused to commit to honoring a subpoena to testify under oath.

The committee voted to subpoena Bondi earlier this month, with five Republicans joining Democrats to demand that the attorney general answer questions about the justice department’s failure to properly release files from the federal investigations into Epstein.
Bondi and deputy attorney general Todd Blanche went to Capitol Hill on Wednesday to try to quell bipartisan frustration over the justice department’s handling of millions of files related to Epstein’s sex trafficking investigation. But less than an hour into the briefing, Democrats walked out in protest of the arrangement.
We are not going to get anything from this administration without dragging them by the hair.

I don't understand this

It's in the nature of a subpoena that it's not optional -- that's what the latin means, "under penalty" (if you don't comply with the demand).

In the UK if you ignore or refuse a witness summons, the police turn up and bring you to court. Is it different in the US?

The subpoena is issued by Congress, not a court of law. With Congress mostly in Trump's back pocket, I'm doubting Bondi feels the threat of criminal contempt charges against her. Especially since he's demanding this.

A photo of naked Trump next to the sentence “You need to watch this.”

No.
No, I really don’t.
Nonetheless, thank you, Innula, for taking one for the team.

In theory yes, but if I understand correctly, Congress doesn't really have an actual enforcement arm. They have like, one dude (maybe a lady) or something.

2 U.S.C.
United States Code, 2010 Edition
Title 2 - THE CONGRESS
CHAPTER 6 - CONGRESSIONAL AND COMMITTEE PROCEDURE; INVESTIGATIONS
Sec. 192 - Refusal of witness to testify or produce papers
From the U.S. Government Publishing Office, www.gpo.gov

§192. Refusal of witness to testify or produce papers
Every person who having been summoned as a witness by the authority of either House of Congress to give testimony or to produce papers upon any matter under inquiry before either House, or any joint committee established by a joint or concurrent resolution of the two Houses of Congress, or any committee of either House of Congress, willfully makes default, or who, having appeared, refuses to answer any question pertinent to the question under inquiry, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $1,000 nor less than $100 and imprisonment in a common jail for not less than one month nor more than twelve months.
Who enforces the penalty? The DOJ.
Who enforces criminal contempt?

Like other federal criminal offenses, the contempt statute is enforced by the Department of Justice (DOJ). Congress may not act as a "law enforcement agency," and thus it must rely on the executive branch to prosecute violations of federal criminal law, even when the offense is committed against Congress itself. Congress's reliance on DOJ to prosecute criminal contempt charges represents the key weakness to the use of criminal contempt as a subpoena enforcement mechanism against executive branch officials. Although 2 U.S.C. § 194 explicitly states that it "shall be the duty" of the U.S. Attorney to present an approved contempt citation to a grand jury, DOJ has not interpreted the statute as creating a mandatory duty, asserting instead that it retains discretion over any individual contempt referral from Congress.
Sooo, the person to enforce the Contempt of Congress committed by Pam Bondi for failing to obey a Congressional subpoena is . . . Pam Bondi.

More tarnished royalty.

Norway's crown princess says she was 'manipulated and deceived' by Epstein

“I was manipulated and deceived,” Mette-Marit said in a tearful interview with public broadcaster NRK screened on Friday morning.

“Of course, I wish I had never met him,” she said of Epstein.

The files showed frequent communication between Mette-Marit and Epstein that occurred long after he pleaded guilty in 2008 to soliciting an underage girl. The 52-year-old crown princess, who apologized to King Harald and Queen Sonja in a February 6 statement, has not been accused of any criminal wrongdoing.
However....
The Epstein files appeared to contradict a statement she gave in 2019, in which she apologised for not having investigated his past and said she would never have associated with him had she known the seriousness of the crimes he committed.

In one released email from October 2011, three years after Epstein pleaded guilty, Mette-Marit wrote to him that she had googled him and that she agreed “it didn’t look too good”, followed by a smiley.

When asked about the email by NRK, Mette-Marit said she could not remember why she wrote it.
Meanwhile....
Suffering from a chronic lung disease that will eventually require her to have a lung transplant, Mette-Marit is also dealing with the trial of her eldest son from a previous relationship, who is accused of rape and other crimes.

Her son, Marius Borg Hoiby, 29, has declared himself not guilty of rape and domestic abuse while admitting in court to some lesser charges.
And not surprisingly....
Some 60% of Norwegians supported the monarchy, down from 70% in January, according to the Norstat poll published on February 21 by public broadcaster NRK, while 27% supported a republic, up from 19% over the same period.

I Googled Mette-Marit and oh my goodness, what a rabbit hole of melodrama and scandal that turned out to be. And as nasty as her first son is now, it's pretty easy to see why. There's nothing like being the embarrassing illegitimate stepchild of the crown prince of Norway to set you up for psychological damage, watching your new siblings line up in the succession to the crown, while your bio-father is in prison for drug-trafficking charges.
