Hah well, that's a minor improvement in my book. I use bluetooth headphones sometimes but wired headphones are ok.
It's still the last major new core functionality in Windows that I can think of that actually benefits users.

I couldn't get WIFI on USB to work until SP3.
OK, SP3 then.

Edit: WTF is that Microsoft ad advertising? It's certainly not making me want to go out and buy a new computer. Especially not after just paying for a root canal. Which now I think of it...

For me, it's only advertising whatever the song is that's playing. Which reminds me, I need to look that up.

Edit: Seems it's an Odessa track. There a few of those in the Forza games, which are also Microsoft. One is the title track for Horizon 4 I think. Makes me wonder if this one will be in the upcoming Horizon 5.

Edit 2: Ok no, it's Odesza in FH4. Now I am wondering which it was in FH3. Or maybe they spelled it wrong on the Microsoft Ad.

What I want to know is if the speaker volume widget goes to 11. :p

But I'm in no rush. My relatively new PC runs fine on W10, and I see no new features to make me jump to a new version. At some point I'll try out 11 on one of my older PCs once it has been out long enough to find the inevitable bugs and squash the serious ones.
Same here. Fortunately they're not bugging me in Windows Update yet, probably because I haven't turned TPM on. At least I hope that's it, because that would mean it won't nag me unless I do.

"It brings you closer to the things you love." Um, I don't love any of those things. Especially the idea of a touchscreen on a desktop or laptop. Phones, yes, tablets, yes, but leave my PC alone.

"It brings you closer to the things you love."

The quote is actually "Brings you closer to what you love" - which means they've learned that in advertising, you never call anything a "thing" (EVEN WHEN YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT THINGS!!!!!!)

Ugh.

Anyhow, what I love is for software ads to make sense. Not getting it here.

Windows 11 feels so weird.

There has been almost zero fan fare, and as far as I can tell, basically no one was able to upgrade to it and no one is really using it

We received some Surface Hubs laden with the most horribly offensive Teams OS. They were migrated to Windows 10 then enrolled in the Insider program. So now they're running Windows 11 and it's working well on them so far.

That's because its still in beta. It won't be released to Enterprise customers until next year, after all the beta testers (i.e. early adopters) have found all the problems. Also, Win11 is mostly getting in the field on new PCs as the default install. One reason suspected for the version update rather than just another semi-annual version update is they are getting rid of Internet Explorer support. If the OS doesn't support it, they don't have waste resources on bug fixes and customer help.

So Surface Hub is when they made that joke about really big tablets for real?

Tis and they're on wheely bases. They're quite convenient for Zoom sessions in random locations, even outside, provided you have a well charged UPS. That's the only practical use we've found for them other than serving as portable whiteboards.

That would be great. They should have done that a quarter of a century ago, of course, but better late than never.

Ha! I just checked through settings for any updates, and I see this message:

This PC can run Windows 11
Great news—your PC meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11. Specific timing for when it will be offered can vary as we get it ready for you.
So they're telling me I can download and install Windows 11. But they don't provide a download and install option.

Oh, Microsoft. You tease!

What Windows 10 fiasco?

Well it's working, because I don't get it.
In my case they kept prompting to upgrade a laptop that didn't have a compatible BIOS. I know a fair number of people who were in a similar situation where telling it to upgrade led to having to reinstall Windows 7. It was annoying.

My laptop hates it too.

And expresses it's displeasure with bluescreens.

Works fine with legacy boot though.
🤷‍♀️
So you need UEFI to install it but not to run it afterwards?
That would be an issue with my laptop, but not my desktop, which fortunately, it's fine with it, but it was tweaked before it even got to me (system optimized for musicians)
I wonder if it's the same with TPM?
I'm not in a hurry, either way. First service pack, maybe. And not even then if it's geared towards touch screen users. My monitors are fine so far, and the idea of getting "gorilla am" does not appeal.

I see windows 11 requires an online password. I use a local one now. I haven't seen anything about windows 11 I care about so will hold off indefinitely.

The problem in my case was that Win10 will install without UFEI and then not find the storage media when you go to boot.

You mean a Microsoft account?
That seems to be only Windows 11 Home. 11 Pro can use a local account.
