Tesla reported lower than expected earnings on Tuesday, with first-quarter profits dropping 71% on much lower sales of electric vehicles. The news isn’t altogether surprising, given the fact that Tesla CEO Elon Musk is the public face of the company and continues to help President Donald Trump destroy the U.S. federal government while peddling far-right extremism on his social media platform X.

Musk tried to put a slightly rosier spin on the state of his EV company in an earnings call Tuesday, but he still sounded very depressed. The billionaire’s tone was subdued as he emphasized the autonomous taxi rides that he would be launching in Texas this June wouldn’t be the Cybercab vehicles many people on social media had expected. The company will only be operating Tesla Model Ys to pick up passengers, deflating news for some who had hoped Musk might deliver something unique.

Rachel Maddow was scathing in her broadcast tonight, skewering Musk on several different issues.

Turns out that Tesla's profits for the quarter, low as they may be, all came from sales of carbon credits to other auto companies and from interest on cash reserves, not auto sales. Auto sales were in the red.

She was outright mocking Musk when he blamed the protests on people being paid to show up and accused them of being recipients of waste and fraud. Maddow then proceeded to show photo after photo of huge protests all across the country. "You think these people really love you, but they were paid to show up and say they don't love you? Really? Is that what you think is going on here?" Long pan of streets filled to bursting with protestors. "Are all these people fraudsters?"

Tesla was always a house of cards. Their value was based on the ability to sell stock, not products. The market is starting to call him on it.

Musk's reputation was kind of always an Emperor's new cloths situation. He NEEDED to be liked by almost everyone to keep it up. ...especially the left, that was more inclined to buy his shitty cars. When he declared war on the left, he shot his foot off.

Trends in the used-car market suggest that a growing number of Tesla owners in both blue and red states are putting them up for sale. Figures from MarketCheck, which tracks the inventories of more than 75,000 dealerships across America, show that listings of used Teslas have risen by two-thirds since the start of the year, twice as much as for other EVs. Listings for the Model 3 have increased by 63%; those for the Model Y have rocketed by 80%. The pattern can be seen in both left-leaning states, such as Massachusetts and New York, and right-leaning ones, such as Indiana and South Carolina.

A Tesla Dealership Manager Blamed Elon Musk for Tanking Sales and Was Immediately Fired

Just a day after criticizing Elon Musk for the automaker's plummeting, a former Tesla manager says he was fired by the company.

It's impossible to deny at this point that Elon Musk has inflicted catastrophic damage to Tesla's brand and hurt its sales. But this, apparently, is an opinion employees aren't allowed to express.

That was the experience of Matthew LaBrot, a now-former Tesla staff program manager who says he was immediately fired from his "dream job" after daring to call out Musk for hurting the company.
