The largest fire burning in California right now is the Dixie Fire burning northeast of Chico (remember the fire that devastated the town of Paradise? Yep, same area). At 463,477 acres, it is the largest single wildfire in California history - a record previously set by the Creek Fire in the Fresno County foothills last year at 379,895 acres. The effects of the Dixie fire, however, are being felt all over the Western US, as huge smoke plumes blanket the region. The Dixie Fire has burned 589 structures, devastating the town of Greenville. It is only 21 percent contained.
