Why is no one stopping him??
Who and how, though? I see lots of talk about the 25th Amendment, but that's more to handle circumstances in which the president is temporarily or permanently completely incapacitated (in a coma or something). If the president doesn't want to cede power, then it's not going to work, and particularly not with this cabinet and congress. Impeaching him would be easier, but that's not particularly likely, either.

It was more rhetorical. I’m not sure what the fuck can be done but it is shocking even by the standards of what’s been happening the past year.

"I will do such things—
What they are yet I know not,
but they shall be
The terrors of the Earth!

You think I’ll weep.
No, I’ll not weep.
I have full cause of weeping,
but this heart Shall break into
a hundred thousand flaws
Or ere I’ll weep.
—O Fool, I shall go mad!"

-- King Lear Act II, Scene 4

I really don't know how people are going about life normally today. The orange demon is talking about genocide, and I have a very strong feeling that whatever we do to Iran - someone will do to us.
I am probably projecting, but I wonder if people are just depressed and desensitized to everything being endlessly horrible that armageddon doesn't seem too bad of an option.

As near as I can tell, the public outcry is non-existent. Just another day of Reichian awfulness.

I think part of it is that he lies about every single thing, so one's brain just assumes he's lying about this, too. Honestly, I won't be at all surprised if, at the very "last" moment, he announces that his brilliant peace talks have totally succeeded and we have won. Easy to do, since no one seems to know why we're there in the first place.

This video reports on the growing backlash among prominent right-wing figures and former Donald Trump allies following his recent rhetoric regarding Iran. The creator highlights that individuals who previously endorsed or supported Trump are now publicly calling for his removal from office, citing concerns over potential war crimes or genocide.
Key takeaways from the video:
  • The Triggering Incident: The backlash stems from Trump stating that a "whole civilization will die tonight," which has been widely condemned as genocidal rhetoric (1:03-1:10).
  • Calls for Removal: Various figures, including Marjorie Taylor Greene, Alex Jones, Candace Owens, and Shawn Ryan, have discussed invoking the 25th Amendment or pursuing impeachment to remove Trump from power (0:43, 2:28, 4:32).
  • Prominent Voices:
    • Marjorie Taylor Greene: Described the situation as "evil and madness" (1:34).
    • Alex Jones: Compared the rhetoric to a "super villain from a Marvel comic" and emphasized the definition of genocide (3:10, 8:19).
    • Shawn Ryan: Criticized Trump for violating campaign promises and changing his stance from "liberating" to destroying (4:12).
    • Candace Owens: Labeled him a "genocidal lunatic" and called for Congressional intervention (4:32).
  • Democratic Response: The video also notes that Democratic lawmakers, such as Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and Nikima Williams, are actively pushing for impeachment and removal via the 25th Amendment (9:50-11:45).
The video concludes that while these calls for removal are significant, they rely heavily on the willingness of other Republican politicians to take action, noting that such courage has historically been in short supply within the party (13:43-14:00).

This video from Secular Talk provides an urgent update regarding recent threats made by President Trump against Iran and the subsequent political fallout. The host expresses grave concern over rhetoric suggesting total civilizational annihilation and calls for immediate action from the political establishment.

Key takeaways include:

  • Escalation of Threats: The host highlights statements from President Trump regarding a potential major attack on Iran (0:05-0:48). The video notes that in response, Iran has frozen diplomatic channels with the United States (1:26-1:45).
  • Political Pushback & 25th Amendment Calls: The video reports that several Democratic members of Congress have officially called for invoking the 25th Amendment (13:39-14:23). The host critiques the lack of broader political support for this measure (14:23-14:45).
  • International Reaction: The UK government has reportedly signaled that it will no longer permit the US to use its military bases for strikes on Iranian energy or civilian infrastructure (11:27-12:08).
  • Shift in Right-Wing Commentary: The host discusses how certain conservative figures, such as Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones, have begun to break with Trump or criticize his rhetoric, with the host arguing these figures are effectively echoing long-standing arguments from the left (7:43-9:22, 12:08-13:20).
  • Military Concerns: The host speculates on the nature of the potential military action, referencing past use of MOABs and discussing the possibility of tactical nuclear weapons or strikes on civilian infrastructure (3:35-5:00, 10:10-10:25).
The host concludes by emphasizing the severity of the situation, characterizing the current administration's stance as dangerous and urging for immediate intervention to prevent further escalation (14:48-15:37).

We've pretty much resigned ourselves to the fact that there is fuck-all we can do, except sit and watch everything burn.

Whatever the outcome, Trump has achieved something I'd have thought impossible -- he's managed to rally international sympathy for Iran, appalling though their regime most certainly is, and has many of the US's traditional partners and allies thinking that the PRC might be a safer bet.

There is a tradition that Jesus will return on Pascha (Orthodox Easter) - not necessarily THIS Easter - but on some Pascha. So, it's kind of wigging me out that this is all going down during our holy week. Because people like to talk about how they look forward to His return, but I'm like I still have many sins to repent of - and when the author walks out on stage the play is finished (to quite CS Lewis)

See the whole problem you have when you go full scorched-earth in your language is that when your bluff is called and you blink, that's it - you never have any credibility again ever. You can't proclaim that you're about to "end a whole civilization forever at 8pm tonight", and then a couple of hours later be like..."okay, that's it, now I'm really serious, you have two weeks or else" and expect anyone to take you seriously ever again.
