Deist was removed from the list. Probably because Evangelicals are trying to retcon the Founding Fathers into sects that didn't exist in 1776.

Also not even a blanket Pagan/Wicca category.

It seems to me that this is a way to deny "privileges" to current members and to discourage enlistment by those who don't profess the State Religion -- a frontal assault on that pesky First Amendment.
This was my thought. The Mormons are thenones squaking, but this is overall just a way to try to remove legitimacy from "non Christian" and "non confrorming Chrisrian" style religions. (Putting aside the overall argument of the legitimacy of any religion.

As was pointed out, Universal Unitarians are not on the list anymore.

Nor even a traditional Native American/Indigenous/First Nations category, which rather surprises me.

As I understand it, the problem is that the LDS regard the Trinity as three distinct entities with a common purpose rather than as one God in three persons -- father, son and holy spirit -- sharing a common divinity.
Mormon theology also makes for great source material for a science fiction series.

Two series, Larson also recycled some for the second season of Buck Rogers when the Searcher was looking for the "Lost Tribes of Earth"

By way of contrast, here's the British military's policy

GUIDE ON RELIGION AND BELIEF IN THE ARMED FORCES

Basically, they recognise all religions, including Rastafarianism and
OTHER ANCIENT RELIGIONS These include religions covered by the Council of British Druid Orders and examples are Druidry, Paganism and Wicca. There are also other ancient religions such as Asatru, Odinism and Shamanism,
in compliance with the Equality Act 2010.

There are a lot of things wrong with Pete's list of official religions.... one of them is that ONLY Christianity is listed as having different denominations. Judaism, Hindu and Islam all have a lot of diversity of thought within them as well. ...it kind of just sends a not so subtle signal that he only views Christianity as the REAL religion. Had to make sure most of the list was the religions he sees as real or at least close to real... It would be a lot more logically consistent if he just listed Christianity as one line. ....I still think that what he really wants to do is just have like 3 values:

Christians (his sect)
Heretics (including Mormons and Catholics)
Heathens (all who don't at all claim the Christian label).

I'm sure you're right about Hegseth's views, but most mainstream Christian denominations -- including Catholics, Orthodox and most Protestant churches -- would distinguish between sects that subscribe to the Nicene, Niceno-Constantinopolitan, and Athanasian Creeds (the doctrine of the Trinity) and those, like the LDS, that don't.

Agreed. I'm just poking fun at Hegseth, not broader Christian scholarship.
