Let's grep, err grok it: DOGE is reportedly feeding sensitive information from government departments and agencies into AI (some type of LLM) to search for opportunities for spending cuts.

It would be funny if the AI was like, "Cut the military and increase social spending."

The thing is: why? The EU had until 2021 the following rules:

- up to 20 EUR customs value: no VAT and no duties (unless goods, which have always duties, like alcohol or tobacco)
- up to 150 EUR: VAT but no duties
- above 150 EUR: VAT and duties

Up to 20 EUR was low value goods. So Chinese companies exploited that a lot, declaring state of the art Samsung Galaxies with 19 EUR and such.

Since 2021 from 0 to 150 EUR VAT is always applied.

And the EU is already planning a special fee for Temu or Sher
in because of the flood of small shipments they are sending, and work load put on customs. The reason is that many of these products pretend to be certified in some way like electrical power safety or free of heavy metals, but in reality they are not.

I was going to say it must be pretty dreadful to be that kid's parents, since the trouble teenagers normally get themselves into is bad enough without their having the opportunity to cause damage on this scale.

Then I remembered he's a pretty obvious example of how dangerous is affirmative action for the children of wealthy white parents in the first place, the sort of affirmative action whereby their family provides them both contacts and background to obtain these internships and the financial support to pursue them, and the assumptions that lead companies to assume teens and young adults can be trusted with any sort of responsibility without close supervision and mentoring simply because they're from what used to be called a good family.

I still feel a bit sorry for the parents, out of common humanity, but talk about accidents waiting to happen.

Thinking of it in this frame a bit, it kind of shows part of the Nazi mindset behind these types of people (rich assholes).

You are rich therefore you must be successful/smart/capable is part of it.

But also, "You are rich/smart/successful/capable, because of your genetics. You are "good" therefore your kids are "good" by default, because genetics. That sort of eugenics sort of crap.

YES. I don't care if these are the smartest wiz-kids on earth, they are too young and immature to be trusted with this kind of access. I hope they are being watched more than the media articles are making it sound like. And even if Musk was 100% as smart as his biggest bootlickers think he is, I think he's too much of an immature, loose-cannon for this kind of thing. Intelligence is the ability to solve technical problems, not the sum total of someone's ability to do the right thing.

All they have to do is plant rootkits, it's not rocket science as long as you know basic IT.

I'm only being slightly facetious; someone on reddit mentioned the possibility that the kids were leaving "a way back in" to the systems and that made a lightbulb go off for me.

I'm not saying they were there to pwn the servers -but it wouldn't surprise me!

Trump has caught Musk fever and thinks he can run everything (into the ground) himself.

President Donald Trump says he is firing members of the board of trustees for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and naming himself chairman.

He also indicated that he would be dictating programming at one of the nation’s premier cultural institutions, specifically declaring that he would end events featuring performers in drag.

Trump’s announcement Friday came as the Republican president has bulldozed his way across official Washington during the first weeks of his second term, trying to shutter federal agencies, freeze spending and ending diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives across the government.
“At my direction, we are going to make the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., GREAT AGAIN. I have decided to immediately terminate multiple individuals from the Board of Trustees, including the Chairman, who do not share our Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture,” Trump wrote on his social media website.

“We will soon announce a new Board, with an amazing Chairman, DONALD J. TRUMP!”
It continues to be vomit inducing when he talks about himself in the third-person.
