tl:dr version:

Small packages under $800 are currently exempt from tariffs. That's why direct ship has become a popular buisness model in China. Trump withdrew the exemption. Many packages sitting in containers will now be open to tariffs but lack declarations of type of goods and value.

That is going to hit Amazon hard. I wonder if Bezos getting down on his knees for Trump was worth it.

Make eBay Great Again?

I think a lot of people do business basically middlemanning direct ship goods.

President Donald Trump said his administration will investigate a high-speed rail project in California that, if completed, would connect San Francisco and Los Angeles with several stops along the way. Trump said a railway project isn’t necessary because, according to him, a plane ticket can be purchased for $2.
I'd ask what airline Trump flies on, but I already know the answer.

Oh, noes! Whatever will the Chinese do????? They're done for! Snidely Trumplash has tied them to the tracks and the train is a' comin'! :freakout::freakout::freakout:

Oh, that's right. They've been through this sort of thing with IQ47 before. At this very moment, re-shippers in semi-sketchy places from Brunei to Kazakhstan are re-opening their shops, delighted to have the opportunity to be of service again.

Here, UPS, FedEx, OnTrac, DHL, and a dozen (at least) smaller parcel handlers are wondering if it is already Christmas again since I'm sure the parcels that have already arrived stateside are being hastily re-directed their way.

So reading my news today and Im starting to wonder if Im just hallucinating this... Trump is going to take over Gaza, send the Palestinians to Egypt and build a holiday resort? Want's to start a concentration camp for immigrants in Guantanamo? And has ordered the "obliteration" of Iran if they assassinate him?

All of these plans were known before the election. Especially the Gaza one and the concentration camps one.

And that's just in the first paragraph of the news today.

:applause: Kudos to Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church! Frigging Brilliant! 😆😂🤣

The Proud Boys, a white nationalist group whose members were instrumental in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the nation's Capitol, lost control of its own name to a historic Black church.

On Monday, D.C. Superior Court Judge Tanya Bosier stripped the extremist group of control over the trademark "Proud Boys" and barred them from selling any merchandise with the name or its symbols without permission of the new owners, Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church, that Proud Boys members vandalized in 2020, the New York Times reported.

The church, which won a $2.8 million default judgment against the group in June 2023, also may have the option to try seizing any money the Proud Boys may make from merchandise such as hats and t-shirts.
We (the peeps) need to do more of this to racist groups like this.

One of the big advantages of rail infrastructure in developed countries is that the train station is usually right in the middle of the city - and if you live in a larger metropolis, then you get multiple train stations.

No lengthy commute, no check-ins and check-outs, few restrictions for luggage, no lost luggage, nobody is touching your crotch area and trains don't get hijacked (except for Pelham 1-2-3).

When I travel to Berlin via train, I can literally walk home from the train station (and I have done so).

Travel by air is just horribly inefficient and uncomfortable by comparison and only makes sense for long distances - but places like the East and West coast of America, where so many large cities are relatively close to each other, should really be connected via high-speed rail.

Because Ohio is red, our rail project isn't getting the same flack. If we can get the 3C route (Cincinnati-Columbus-Cleveland) running it would make travel so much easier. Columbus is a 2 hour drive to Cleveland, or with boarding, taxiing, security etc, about 2 hours to fly. Current infrastructure could get there in 60 minutes by rail. And you are not out in the burbs for the airport.
